Any experience using a Compex?

I'm thinking of buying one and my coach is cautious. Any experience either good or bad?

Is that like Tampax and Kotex? If so, they work great.

Had two actually. I found it was pretty time consuming if I used them as I should have. Some swear they work well, but I didn't see the results, and found it took pretty much a minimum of an hour to do just my legs properly. I think a foam roller and TP massage stuff will do as well, and cost a hell of a lot less. As far as using it for strength building, it did make my legs sore, but I'm not sure that doing high resistance, low cadence stuff on the bike didn't do better, as it's through the range of muscles used doing activity. After trying to justify the crazy cost for a couple of models, I gave up and sold mine. I don't miss them at all, and if I did, I'd rather have massage.

I kind of enjoyed electrocuting myself, it was fun. I'd slap the pads on right before a nap and doze off.

Now is it better or did I notice anything different about my recovery from the normal? I can't say definitively yes or no.

I have been using it for 3 or 4 years. I use it for active recovery and sometimes warm up (but not often for that purpose). I have used it a lot for rehab and used it following surgery.

The active recovery works quite well. I recovered from a torn muscle a couple years ago in staggering time. My PT was stunned by the quick recovery.

Personally, I have a great deal of success with recovery. It certainly feels like it works out lactic acid and crap from the muscle. It does increase blood flow. Helps get the soreness out after races and hard workouts. I have definitely gotten my money's worth.

Regarding the muscle building claims - I am highly skeptical. But, I do not useit for that purpose.

I'm the importer of the other major brand Globus, so I could not give you unbiased feedback. However, instead of talking to your coach, who probably does not have experience with EMS, you would get more valuable feedback from coaches who have some experience with EMS. Talk for instance to coach Al Lyman or Jim Bruskewitz.
