Wheel size 650 vs. 700, how do I know?
Went to a bike shop this morning. Got the urge to buy a QR Kilo. I currently ride a Softride Powerwing with 650 wheels. I would like to buy this QR Kilo, it is a size 55 cm.

My question is how do I know which wheel size will work for me, size 700 or size 650?

will I screw up my training if I train with a 700 and race with 650

I am currently 5'9'' tall, if that helps.

Any advice would be great. Kevin.

As long as you position is consistent, there should be no problems switching between the two bikes.

Do you mean that as long as I am fitted the same on both bikes?

Yes. You may feel some slight differences in handling, but as long as the positions of your contact points are consistent between the two bikes, then there's really no finctional difference.

Just curious, but how well does the 55cm frame fit you? I'm 5'10" and for my road bike I use a 55 but for my tri bike I fit best on a 53. The next road frame I get will most likely be a 53 since I am much more comfortable on that. Just wondering. And the Kilo in 53 only comes with 650c wheels.

While there are no absolutes until you are in the shop, my experience with QR tells me that at 5'10" a 55cm Kilo is probably too big for you. 53 will probably fit best. I'm 5' 9 1/2" and have owned a QR 53cm which fit perfectly. As far as 650 vs 700, well, you will not likely notice a performance difference. What you will notice is the headache of maintaining two different sizes of wheelgoods. God help you if you decide to get a powertap for training. Which one do you get it for then? Either that or you spend a lot of extra $$. i just went through having both sizes, 700 for road and 650 for tri. had a powertap for the tri. i do most of my recovery and off season on the road bike,m as well as focussed mountain work. it would be nice to have the PT for that. its 4-600 for another wheel though. i also race some on the road bike for hilly courses. i don't have aero wheels for the road bike, just light climbers. big headaches maintaining both sizes. i'll be replacing my crushed saber with a 700 bike. those issues may not be important to you though.
