I think that sounds like a great idea. Everyone who has posted on this forum who is going to the Tinman race who would like to meet for dinner Saturday night lets figure out a place to meet at the packet pickup. We can decide from there where to go or stay at the Casino and eat. Good luck to all those racing.

What time does everyone plan to be at the packet pick-up? I'm shooting for 4-5pm.

Neglected to mention that I'm doing the race as well--look for me on the red Yaqui. Noah's Ark (water park for you non-midwesterners) on Monday, baby, if I can adequately walk.

I plan on being at the packet pickup around that same time then go search for food. We are thinking of camping with the family.. Anyone else doing this. Also, where is this Noahs Ark water park this would work well with my family if it is close.... Will all of you be bringing your kids up to the race also?

The Wisconsin Dells, which is only minutes away, is either tourist heaven or hell, depending on your perspective. They have every kind of water park (Noah's Ark being the most notable), go-kart track, putt-putt golf course, etc. that you can imagine. If the temperatures finally make it to the 70s by that weekend, the place will be packed.

As of right now, my wife and two daughters are planning on coming to the race. We're staying with relatives about 30 min. from Mirror Lake.

yes, as ben sez i did ride the course, kinda, a couple weeks back. "kinda", because i was just going from memory and aone glance at the map. but, i ride out there every year when i am in the dells for a conference. it is a fave place to ride. compared to the known MOO course in general the terrain has hills which are smaller and even closer together, as a rule. most you would not even call hills. many i bet you would get air off in a car going 60 MPH, and loudly bottom out in the bottom. they pitch and roll almost wildly at times. surfaces are kinda rough and ridged or patched frequently. it is a blast to ride here - but i am not too sure about a PR. and, all that talk about how well a bike "rides" will be put to the test for sure. persoanlly i think a road geometry calfee with longish stays and a slam position would be the perfect bike to pull from the quiver. the roads tend to the narrow, with trees overhead and pretty sand buttes and stuff to see. you FEEL as if you are really hauling a$$ as you jam down a hill, over a creek, and then blast up the other side not even shifting. it is a rollicking good time out there.

the run, from what i could see is on xc skating trails which as somebody noted are wide, smooth, and packed. maybe not the fastest , but by no means x-terra-like. you could drive a limosine down these sort of trails - well, maybe not a steatch limosine, but you get the idea.

all in all it will not be, i do not think, a place where you will be likely to set your fastest splits for this distance. but you will enjoy the heck out the ride and run for certain unless you are a freak-like slave to your perfect aero position and HRM - compared to most other courses i have seen around wisconsin you will be out of range for both more than you like if so - if my admittedly limited experience is a judge.

Well I know for me it will be a PR since I have never done a 1/2 Ironman before. I am looking forward to the trails since to break things up. I look forward to meeting all those that will be racing that day that have been posting. It has been put out that most people will try and arrive at packet pickup between 4 and 5pm. Possibly go grab some food after that. As I stated earlier I will be the one on a QR Private Reserve with a Renn Disk.. Please intro yourself if you see me. Take care and good luck to all.

I'm not going to know until that day. If we (my family and I) come straight to packet pick-up from home, then no. If we go to my relatives' house earlier in the day and I come to packet pick-up myself, then yes. Either way, I'm planning to be at the packet pick-up between 4 and 5.

See you there!

I am in the same boat as Dave in WI. It all depends on my family. We will be coming up to possibly camp and if you do not mind eating with my wife, my kids and me we are in. It will not be anything fancy but I would like to meet all that I have been talking with on this post. We will also make an effort to be a packet pickup between 4 and 5pm. See Yall there.

what sort of gearing is everyone planning on riding? i currently have an 11-23 cassette on my bike, but because of the rolling terrain and few challenging hills i was thinking of switching to 12-25. i was thinking 12-27 might be a little excessive.

How will everyone know who the Slowtwitch folks are, will someone have a sign or something?

Good luck to all in case I don't get to see you prior to the race!

Don't know if I'll make it to the packet pickup by 5:00. I'll try.

I'll be the 6-4 guy, probably wearing my white Gilligan bucket hat, driving a gold Toyota van.

good luck!
