A few month ago there were some posts about aerodynamic equipment. Some guy´s said aerodynamic equipment was without any advantage as long as one wasn´t cruising a 40 km TT at 25 mph. Well, today I took out my new racebike. I´m not a fast racer - actually I´m quite slow. Throughout january, february and march my best 40 km TT´s were all below 19.3 mph. Today my speed was 21.5 on the same course (flat). I had the flu all week so I wasn´t even fit for fight today. Only changes: Bike and clothing.
Before: Steel frame, Ultegra 9 speed, dropbar, normal wheels, mtb pedals and shoes, light wind jacket
After (today): Titanium frame, slightly steeper, Dura Ace 9 speed, dropbar with shortened Profile Carbon Stryke, American Classic 420 wheels with bladed spokes, Time Impact pedals, racing shoes, wind west.
I love my new bike but still have to adjust some things. I think 3,5 km/h is a significant increase. I don´t know what benefits the most, but fact is, I´m way faster today than last week, even though I´m still slow.
So my conclusion - aero rules, even at low speed
Regards
Martin
