Going to Europe this summer. Any difference flying on a US airline vs a European airline. Was looking at Delta & Air France. Appears Air France uses the same Delta flight as Delta for some flights.. Or could go with Air France and fly on a KLM flight.

If you’re flying coach, very little/no difference between the major carriers. One interesting option to consider... Iceland Air has an offer that allows you to lay over in Iceland for up to a week and then continue the itinerary for no extra cost (except the astounding amount of money you’ll spend in Iceland - holy crap it’s expensive). Sometimes the cost of the Iceland Air ticket is actually less than a direct flight from US/EU. Go direct to their site to get info.
If you’re flying Premium Economy, I’ve found AA/BA a nice experience.

Klm all the way
No brainer unless you want a parochial french approach to in flight entertainment
I just did Beijing air france one way and Klm back and it was much better

BA premium is also good. Doing that to Beijing in a week or so.

I would put KLM far ahead of any North American airlines.

Have a look at http://www.seatguru.com to have a look at airplane layout, seat pitch, which are he good/bad seats. There is passenger feedback and photos. Just put in which dates and which airline to get an idea. Which US city will you be flying out of and where are you going? Like mentioned above Iceland air is a fantastic option. Just beware they are a “budget airline” great inflight entertainment, but you have to pay for food. You can always bring your own food/snacks.

It's been a few years since I made the hop over but found European airlines far, far superior to North American offerings, even in economy class.
Lufthansa, BA were both fantastic and would be my preference, KLM good, no data on Air France.
I'll second using http://www.seatguru.com for research.
Long Chile was a silly place.

Usually go with European Airlines. Haven't taken KLM in years, nowadays I take budget airlines across (IcelandAir, Norwegian/WOW), and hop around with RyanAir or another budget airline in Europe.

I flew Lufthansa many times and KLM sometimes from Vancouver. Economy is more or less the same, nothing noteworthy. Same for Air Canada and British Airways which I took once. Flew Lufthansa business once and loved it.
Delta, AF, and KLM are all on the same alliance and codeshare a lot so if you have a preference, make sure the operating carrier is actually the one you want. I live in Atlanta so anytime I go to Europe, it's on one of those carriers. To me, Delta has better in flight entertainment options and personally, KLM has better service in the air. But the seats are all similar in Economy.
These days, I just book whichever is cheapest among the 3. Usually that means booking on the KLM website for some reason - no matter who is operating the flight, KLM's site usually has the lowest prices.
