Trump flubs national anthem
Trump got lit up on Twitter last night over this.

He's a special kind of genius. The best kind.

I mean all that swaying, forgetting the words...it's almost as bad as kneeling for the anthem.

Apologies. Here's a much more accurate account:

"With his right hand on his heart, Trump smiled and occasionally sang along with the band."

I guess the question is, which story do you believe? after all they are 2 very different stories about the same thing.

Seems he doesn't know the words, which is odd because Trump knows ALL words and was great friends with Francis Scott Key.

Just what I thought. Yet another thread bashing Trump about minuscule things. Knows the words, doesn't know the words who the hell cares? Obviously you. Your obsession with all things Donald Trump is growing by the day. Your TDS is also getting worse. I suggest you go get help.

Pretty funny - I think the whole thing is simply amusing, esp in the context of the whole kneeling shit, but you're getting all gee'd up. Who needs the help?

Problem is that this is a Cerveloguy level post, so yes, a little surprising from you. Good news is you can take comfort in knowing Mueller will get to the bottom of it. :)

Not gee'd up at all. Just pointing out your growing obsession. I find it interesting that as time goes by even the most level headed anti-Trump posters eventually turn to posting stupid shit about him that at the end of the day simply does not matter.

If a President makes a huge song and dance about the need to respect the anthem, he opens himself up for criticism if he doesn't know the words of the same anthem.

Or, to use the Trumpist tactic, "But Hillary...". Odds on her getting a free pass if it had been her?

Seems obvious to me that the problem was that he kept lapsing into Russian and trying to sing the Russian anthem, then correcting himself. He's, like, a super genius guy, but choons can be so darned confusing.

Have you ever been reciting something that you know and stumbled on it because you were thinking about something else? Our family says/asks a "blessing" before we eat dinner together at night. We've been saying it for over a decade. Numerous times I've stumbled on it because I was thinking about something else at the time. That could easily happen to someone while singing the NA.

Trump is a busy man and could have had a number of things running through his head. "Does this suit make my hands look small?". "Will I have to miss a round of golf for this?" "Do I need to call the Russians to get some dirt on Oprah?"

Give him a break.

Seriously, It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't put much importance on learning and remembering the words to the NA.

Do we really need 3-4 posts per day about stupid shit like this post to point it out? I mean I fully expect it from you but shirley not from Kay :o)

David Brooks has an op-ed addressing what he sees in a similar vein. Discusses "lowbrowism" and Fox's Hannity etal, then what he sees happening on the left:

"We anti-Trumpers have our lowbrowism, too, mostly on late-night TV. But anti-Trump lowbrowism burst into full bloom with the Wolff book.
Wolff doesn’t pretend to adhere to normal journalistic standards. He happily admits that he’s just tossing out rumors that are too good to check. As Charlie Warzel wrote on BuzzFeed, “For Wolff’s book, the truth seems almost a secondary concern to what really matters: engagement.”
The ultimate test of the lowbrow is not whether it challenges you, teaches you or captures the contours of reality; it’s whether you feel an urge to share it on social media.
In every war, nations come to resemble their enemies, so I suppose it’s normal that the anti-Trump movement would come to resemble the pro-Trump movement. But it’s not good. I’ve noticed a lot of young people look at the monotonous daily hysteria of we anti-Trumpers and they find it silly."

After 8 years of this forum bashing Obama, I find that this comment is pretty ironic.

That's what you get from all this? Trump is like an ant infestation in your house. If you see an ant walking across the floor in your kitchen, you don't freak out and assume the worst. But when you see multiple ants walking across the floor, and in the bathroom, and in the living room, and every day, you can then safely assume you have an ant infestation, and you are right to freak out.

How many "ants" do *you* need to see before you accept that Trump is the deranged one, not us?

Depends. What color are the ants?
