small insignificant part - what's it called?

No idea what it's called other than a "shift cable guard" - the small triangular length of plastic that gets installed between the shift cable and the bar extensions before the tape gets put on - in theory to give the hands more surface area to grip, and perhaps to protect the shift cable from pulling down out of the bar end shifters?

Pic attached for reference... not sure if I even need to use these anymore or if I should just use electrical tape to secure the cable housing to the bar extensions. Thoughts? (and yes I know how much I am going to hear Di2 so I can eliminate the cables altogether - my banking account and skill level don't justify that amount of $$ spent)

So that's what those are for. Never used one and never had any issues without it, but interesting to know.
