LOTS of porn in those, including a Niner RDO. That was a sweet bike, as was my buddy's black Open. It weighed 15.6 lbs. as seen in the photos. Crazy for a disc brake, big tire bike, if you ask me. My favorites were the both the titanium and the custom steel frames.

Did you say custom steel and Ti? :-)

You guys are killing me! I signed up for the Michigan Coast 2 Coast Gravel Grinder (218 miles, Saginaw to Ludington) and had decided I couldn't justify a new bike until I fixed the engine. My 5 year old Trek X01 is fine... I can fit 40's on it and it's comfortable, but damn! There are some nice looking gravel bikes out there! I'm a big fan of the Salsa bikes... Warbird or the Fargo, depending on how aggressive you want to set things up.

Ignore the blurb. I did not write it.

It is absolutely the dogs bollocks. Once i have my P1's back i will use it for everything.

All the things people hate; thru axles, discs and top spec and a collectors carbon saddle :)

Thanks. It really is an amazing bike. I switch between 700x35 and 650x48. I've done some pretty awesome mixed surface rides on it with the 48s where I'll hit gravel, pavement and trails over 5 or 6 hours - so versatile!

I wanted the deep wheels, and the only pair they had left had black hubs. I'm a big fan of adding some color to the small accessories, and I regret going straight black.

Dude, come on. You ride (or at least ridden) with Gravel Cyclist of gravelcyclist.com, he's got this gravel bike thing figured out better than 99% of the folks riding gravel and several porn worthy rides.

Open is super nice... I like double chain rings though so I would not consider the 3T, you might. But there is something to be said for Ti for this kind of bike. Why Cycle R+ would be on my short list.

Haha, I was just about to tell him to hook up with JOM at Gravel Cyclist since those guys are in Gainesville.

Francois, get something that will take up to 45mm tires. You're going to need it on the sugar sand roads of FL.

Late-'80s PX40, frame and fork were €30. the rest is all parts bin leftovers.

Massive tyre clearance with the long-drop Tektro caliper brakes. Rides beautifully.

Am I doing this right.

Raleigh Tamland 1. 40+ tire clearance. It’s steel and heavy but I love riding it.

Loving the builds man! Lynskey knows Ti.

Vintage Spooky thin wall AL frame with CX fork, cane headset, SRAM Rival, Brooks Swallow saddle, just mounted up Vittorria's 35's on the Dura Ace C50 Tubulars. Rides insane! Best bike ever. 35-38 is max for me on the rear as this is a 1st gen frame.

There is a blog "Riding Against the Grain" and the author got himself a Spooky frame - also blown away how good the bike rides.

Focus Paralane. I'm feeling a little insignificant with my 35mm clearance.

Sweet! Sure makes me miss my UO-10!

Looks like you're having a little trouble finding a comfy bar position, though.

Ritchey Breakaway Ti Cross on Mount Hopkins. Cantis since replaced with mini-Vs, to great effect. Tires here are 30c; yes I pinch-flatted flying down. Love this bike!

Yep. It's shortly getting a different stem and bars, the rear will be cold set to 130mm and it also needs the derailleur hanger to be aligned properly. After that it'll be perfect - I just couldn't wait to ride it this summer. It also is the only bike on this thread with its own kickstand, ha ha.

Cheap steel is brilliant for this application. It's a little heavier (obviously) but much stiffer, particularly in the larger frame sizes, as the gauge is so much bigger than the posh stuff.

I make my own... and for others.

This one was made as a rigid single-speed MTB/monster-crosser, with road cranks. Sporting 26"x2.25" MTB tires. Could easily be made into a 1x11 just by swapping out the slider dropout.
