Hi, Women! Thanks for kicking off the weekly Dr. TC.

Had a great week last week, culminating with IM 70.3 Santa Cruz. As is the new trend, got passed on the bike by SoCal at around mile 40. Way to rock it SoCal!

Most of the week was taper activities and then race. The race went well enough though I was bummed by the shortened swim. I was ticked off that I had to make a pit stop on the run and that cost me some time, but it was otherwise good for me. During my pit stop my nutrition fell into the urinal. Oops! Wasn't gonna touch that one again. It was quite a scene in there with me trying to catch it while holding my sunglasses in my mouth with one arm half way into a sleeve. Note to self: don't rush the pit stop.

Not much else going on. This week will be rest and recovery and then gearing back up for a late October 70.3.

Rock on, Women!

What's left of my commuter bike-GRRRRRRR! I have since invested in a Kryptonite U-bolt lock that I will use when my new bike arrives next week. Many days, my 30 minute round trip and my demonstrating proper movement patterns is the extent of my exercise.[/img]

Thanks for getting us started TC and well done SLOGoing & SoCal.

Edbikebabe - how did you get on? Both with the return to work, and the overnight trip!

I had a week off bike/run! It felt strange but I didn't really want to get on the bike and I tweaked my hamstring towards the beginning of the week with some yard work and that didn't feel better until Saturday. I did lots (for me) of yardwork and my patio is just about usable now after some solid hours put in cleaning and tidying.

I also taught my first grade 7/8 fire safety classes - so different from teaching grades 1-3!

This week: back into training mode to prepare for our trip to Tucson in December. I have cycled a decent amount this summer but it wasn't really "training" as I could tell with this morning's FTP test result. Goals: 3 indoor rides (1 done), 2 runs, 2 strength/core sessions (that aren't my pre-run activation). And it's time for the nightly cocktail/beer/wine to stop.

I hope Mt. Lemmon is planned on that trip. It's incredible.

Yes it is! I have been looking at the strava segment and am a little scared; any tips?

Sally - that really sucks. Any hope of catching whichever loser stole your bike? Hope you'll post pictures of the new bike once it arrives.

Thanks for thinking of me!! Back to work is a serious adjustment. Mostly my attitude needs to change or work is going to suck even more. Home stuff is crazy chaos, but we'll figure out a system (eventually).

Backpacking was FABULOUS. It was a nice easy hike in (perfect for my first time). Fire ban + rain made for an early night. It was just so nice to be "away" and there were no bear sightings.

My legs are tired, but not really sore, so I'm hoping to get in at least a couple bike rides and one run before I race this weekend.

Scheherazade - which do you prefer teaching: big or little kids?? I have a friend who did Mount Lemmon - he said he would have stashed some bottles part way up (he was in town by himself). Otherwise he said it was epic and awesome.

SUPER big bummer about the bike Sally. :(

Goals for this week - bike 3x (off to a good start with 40 mi this morning), run 5-6 times, and a 3 mi swim race on Sunday!

all done! 3 bikes (40.4 mi, 2 mi, 4 mi), 5 runs (39.7 mi), 5 swims (10, 055 yds).

I was 4th FOV in the swim race. There were 11 women in the 3 mi (there were also .25, .5, 1, and 2 mi distances). I was 16th of the 33 people (men included). Time 1:19:13. I had fun :-) and I made up a place on the last lap. What I really enjoyed was the course - three times around a 1 mi course, with a short run between each. It helped break up the laps and it's nice to hear people cheer.

Goals for this week:
- read and make notes on at least 4 journal articles for a project
- 3 bikes (signed up for a metric century on 9/30)
- day off from running
- swim 5x

don't be scared. Just bring warm stuff for the ride down, and enjoy it.

I think I get different things out of the different age groups. I like that with the older kids we can talk more about "ideas" (e.g. the fire triangle) and we can problem-solve different situations. At the same time, it really peeves me when they're sitting there rolling their eyes or are actually asleep! With the younger kids it's more me telling them what to do BUT they are all so enthusiastic that it brings a different energy to the classes.

This week I'm taking a fire truck to the daycare and that will just be lots of climbing in and out and running the lights; it's something different every week.

The video shows a man bolt-cutting my chain and riding away anonymously. My new lock takes 40 minutes total to saw through and it carries $5,000 insurance on the bike it's attached to.

I'm just happy it wasn't my tri-bike, otherwise, I'd be pretty inconsolable now. The commuter bike was worth maybe $200 and I have replaced it, including lock and lights, for $700.

And yes, once I get everything done (I ride to work before dawn in front of a casino) I will post what a safe ride looks like to me đŸ˜‰

It takes a special kind of person to be a teacher, that's for sure. I rarely interact with kids at my day job but have spoken at the odd career day and once taught a unit of 5th graders for an hour for a couple of weeks... afterward I felt like calling all my former teachers and apologizing, and I wasn't even a bad kid! hahaha

No way could I teach all day, every day. I'd be in my cups the entire time! And prior to this the only professional exposure I had to kids was Youth Court (I was the prosecutor).

I love your signature line...

I am so very grateful every day for the teachers that take on the challenge. I live with my son - I know the struggle. :P

Thanks for getting us started Dr. Tigerchik -- good work getting your goals, congratulations on your race, and thanks!
SallyShortyPnts, I am so sorry about your bike. Bike thieves are monsters.
Scheherazade, good luck easing back into training and thanks.
(p.s. I'm with Midtown Miles, teachers are special, patient people -- thanks for what you do!
edbikebabe, glad you had a good trip -- good luck this weekend!

Like SLO, my week culminated in a 70.3, my goals for the week were:
Quote:
I'm feeling tired but okay. I am happy to have a nice taper with 2 easy runs, 2 easy bikes, 1 or 2 swims (depending on elbow), and hopefully 2 sessions of yoga. I'll be better about my p/rehab too.
I did all of the above, took it very easy, and was diligent about my p/rehab -- the tired feeling remained but my 70.3 went well. As SLO mentioned, our swim was shortened/delayed due to dense fog. We were all warmed up and then stood around on the beach for ninety minutes getting hungry and antsy -- some people are all worked up but I think the race did a good job of handling a tough situation. The bike was a cool and overcast coastal ride with a tailwind on the way out and a headwind on the way back. I had a solid bike -- I felt comfortable on my tri bike and staying mostly aero. I was glad to see SLO on the course -- she was strong and smiley (Go Womens Go!) A delayed start meant the run was under the heat of the day -- I'd hoped for a much faster run split but the heat got the better of me and I went with a more comfortable pace and just tried to hang on. I finished 4th in my AG. I know a short swim helped me and that the big dogs were in Chattanooga but it was still fun to stand on a WTC podium and get a plaque. I am very happy with my progress this year and was proud of my race.

I don't have anything else on my calendar in 2017 and honestly I really know what I'm going to do next. I'm open to suggestions for temperate Oly and 70.3 races...

This week I'm going to do yoga, maybe some easy s/b/r movement, and probably a little climbing -- if I feel good, I'll strength train too.

I hope everyone has a great week of training!

I think my grimace comes out as a smile.... haha.

I signed up for Trick-or-Tri. It looks interesting and it is the almost-latest race I could find in the 'hood. And the price is right. http://www.trickortri.com/

Then I have the Morro Bay OLY. It is a week after Trick-or-Tri, but why the heck not? And that will close the season out for me the first weekend in November. I can't hardly believe the year is almost over! http://www.morrobaytri.com/

Hope to see you out there again!
