Wait, what? PETA suing photographer on behalf of a monkey

I'm not smart enough to make this stuff up: A monkey picks up a camera and takes a selfie. Owner of camera uses photo in a book. PETA sues photographer on behalf of monkey, claiming copyright infringement. PETA loses in the trial court but appeals, appeals, appeals...

What's the name of the progressive theory of fomenting political/social change? The one in which you just keep coming back again and again and again and you'll eventually prevail. Serious question. There's a name for the strategy but it's escaping me at the moment.

Great story . . . but I'm left wondering how PETA has standing to sue on the monkey's behalf . . . . . (I know, I know . . . . "fucking lawyers!").

I'm sure that's a core issue in the appeals.

I hate PETA so much. I am doing work in my spare time to make a better world for animals but these asshole dipshit attention whores fuck everything up. Trying to have a conversation with someone about animal cruelty and it always slams hard into a story about some PETA stunt and there is no recovery.

Why do you hate modern capitalism, intellectual and artistic property, and America?
I supose in your socialist peoples paradise the work someone creates belongs to everyone?

Remember - It's important to be comfortable in your own skin... because it turns out society frowns on wearing other people's

OK, now for the complete dork perspective. From a copyright standing, who is the author?

That was where this started. The guy who owned the camera didn't hit the button, or direct the monkey to hit the button. He just lost his camera. So who took the picture? And where could the monkey keep the profits if he doesn't have any pockets?

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

My understanding was that he claimed it wasn't just chance that the money took the picture, he spent considerable time and effort encouraging it to do so. I could be wrong.

PETA is just too stupid to be taken seriously. How many animals could they have helped with all the money they spending on an incredibly stupid lawsuit?

They are spending enormous amounts of money in the hopes that they can get an animal the same rights as a person. Succeeding in this could give them everything they want.
