I just don't understand why she was such a hopeless optimist or was she so status driven that she put up with it for so long? But then again, maybe it wouldn't have mattered if she tried to divorce earlier. Maybe he would have murdered her just the same. I guess she underestimated his capacity for violence.

I've known several women like this in my life (you probably have to) - the type that on the surface seem to have their act together, have good careers, etc but in reality are complete screw ups in their relationships with men. If there is a loser, abuser or mismatch out there, then they seem to gravitate towards them and are easily charmed by these kind of guys. I'm not a psychologist, but wonder if it has to do with low esteem, or whatever?
