Why do GOP candidates have to decry Rush's slut comments?
Really.

For the most part, Newts whining about the liberal media is just that, but on this issue he is spot on. He was on Meet the Press yesterday and David Gregory was hammering him on this.

I mostly fall in to the Al Franken "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" camp. While he pulls a lot of weight (literally and figuratively) in the GOP, he is not the voice of the candidates. The fact that they are expected to apologize for his stupid comments is even more idiotic than his comments were in the first place.

Okay. That's my "elite liberal media" rant for the week. Don't get used to it;) Most of the time I view that label as conservative whining, but in this case it is spot on. It irritated me enough that I may write Meet the Press a letter even (im sure they will be devestated). Terrible.

The answer is, "they don't have to decry Rush" and if they're smart (a big question, honestly) they won't.

Get out from underneath your rock. Rush is the voice of the GOP. All conservative candidates kiss his ring and lick his boots. What they have done is not really decry him anyway.

People from Panama City are dumb rednecks who live in trailers, sleep with their sisters, and drive Ford trucks with Dale Earnhardt stickers on them.

In my case, I drive a Mitsubishi

Someone defend this guy:

- Calling a coed a slut, prostitute.
- Making fun of Michael J. Fox (parkinson's)
- Referring to Donovan McNabb in a racist way
- Calling Amy Carter the 'most unattractive presidential daughter'
- Feminazis - used over and over
- Calling hang-up callers on his show 'caller abortions'.
- Calling Barney Frank the "Banking Queen"
- Been fingered in a narcotics ring (in addition to his addiction)
- May or may not have been married and divorced 3x, on his 4th.

Really? This is the voice of being conservative? And it doesn't include his addiction or how much of his rhetoric was played under the influence, nor the hypocryicy of his standards vs. what he lives
by.

IMHO, not a leader, and it's amazing anyone listens. Astounded that he's got an audience. If that's where we're headed, I'm out.

That's all? For a guy that's been on air 3 hrs a day for decades, who's goal is to "illustrate the absurd by being absurd", that's pretty slim. Also the McNabb thing is wrong.

On the air for decades isn't an excuse. If anything, that doens't grant him leeway and privlege, it asks him to play to a higher standard.

Let's ask this question: if your boss said "I've been doing this for 30 years, I know what's best", does that enable him/her to ask you to do whatever the hell they'd like, or do you expect them to be tactful in making requests of their staff?

The GOP doesn't have a leader right now and it sure if they did it sure would not be Rush.

I've listened to the guy for over 20 years, mostly because he is entertaining and I appreciate his take and insight on things. He is a great entertainer/commentator but he is not the leader of the GOP.

So do you have the same issue with Bill Mahar and the things he's said about conservative women? Here are just some of his more mild statements:

Maher has called Palin a “dumb twat” and dropped the C-word in describing the former Alaska governor. He called Palin and Congresswoman Bachmann “boobs” and “two bimbos.” He said of the former vice-presidential candidate, “She is not a mean girl. She is a crazy girl with mean ideas.” He recently made a joke about Rick Santorum’s wife using a vibrator. Imagine now the same joke during the 2008 primary with Michelle Obama’s name in it, and tell me that he would still have a job. Maher said of a woman who was harassed while breast-feeding at an Applebee’s, “Don't show me your tits!” as though a woman feeding her child is trying to flash Maher. (Here’s a way to solve his problem: don’t stare at a strangers’ breasts). Then, his coup de grâce: “And by the way, there is a place where breasts and food do go together. It’s called Hooters!”

Interesting that I never hear the liberals outraged with the foul language Mahar spews towards women.... but Rush calls a woman, who feels entitled for her birth control meds so she can have sex to paid for by someone else a slut, and they are suddenly outraged... but if Mahar calls Palin a slut, or worse a c*nt, they think it's funny.

So you are okay with what Rush said then?

No. He used a poor choice of words and should not have called her a slut or prostitute. However, I agree with him that it birth control is not an entitlement that someone else should pay for. So I agree with the sentiment of what he said but do not agree it is okay to call the woman degrading names. He should have expressed his opinion without resorting to the negative names that he did. He also apologized for this. I've never heard Mahar apologize for any of the things he's said, nor have I heard the liberals calling for him to apologize.

You missed one of the best ones that is spot on for this topic.

Returning from the Dominican Republic with 4 other dudes and a bottle of viagra. So either on a sex vacation or doing 4 other dudes. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/...dominican-stag-party

But I'm sure he gets a pass on being a slut.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

Because it's amusing to watch the GOP candidates squirm when asked to respond.

I think the point is that he's been on the air for decades and that list is rather short for someone as bad as some of you are portraying him. Like others have said in other threads; many people who dislike him have never listened to him on the radio. They're just repeating what they've heard others saying about him.

The fact that your list includes some invalid accusations indicates that you're repeating things about him that you've heard from unreliable and/or biased sources.
