Pretty cool video from the P/1/2 Cherry Pie crit yesterday, complete with real-time wattage and speed. Just like watching Nascar on Fox: http://www.youtube.com/...ture=player_embedded

Cool video. I have a question though.
I don't know THAT much about crit riding but I've read some articles and kind of get the basic idea (and I definitely respect that it can be very very difficult to move up)...but it seems like a lot of the guys are just chilling in the back and don't seem to really mind. Wouldn't they want to try and slowly move up towards the front. I know it's much easier said then done...but it just doesn't really seem like a race for the dudes in the back..they're just chillin? What's the deal?

Maybe the are resting? I pro crit can be 75-90 minutes long. Different strategies.

Couple things. It's February so many people are getting back in the groove of racing or as a training day (like me). Also, in that race there was a break off the front with the two strongest teams driving it (little chance of it coming back). There were opportunities to move up but you'd still be sprinting for 10th place.

The first turn (at bottom of the hill) was at 35 mph. Took a few laps to get used to taking it in a pack of 90 guys.

Are you the guy in the video?

Man, you guys are already racing, and we have 2 feet of snow on the ground with another 1-2 FEET on the way...grrrr!

No, that was a teammate who makes riding a crit look like a recovery day. I was right behind the camera guy for most of it.

Weather has been lousy here but heading to AZ for VoS on Thursday. Ready for some sun.

I'm heading to VOS tomorrow, too. Very much looking forward to 70+ degrees and sunny!

Looks like his averages are as high/higher than guys who are in the mix- just goes to show you that the back is not the easiest.

A buddy in the break was 316 NP for the hour. I'm certain I was higher than that in the back.

How did the speed and power dashboard get overlayed on the video?

No, but the scary thing is that guy can put out way more power for an hour than that. I train with him a bit, and also can beat him about 1 out of 4 times in TT.

Hey Carl, just for reference, my power was 251 (291 NP) and I was sitting in the middle of the pack most of the crit and only made a couple of appearances at the front.
