Use a power inverter in car with laptop

Is this something that is ok to do, I know that a number of companies sell inverters for devices but is there any risk to your laptop by doing this?

Entertaining but causes concern for your well being that you had that at your finger tips :-)

I'm guessing it is not a big deal

I have done this and it works great. It comes in really handy.

I never understood the car chargers for all these various things. Just get a power inverter and use a regular charger for laptop, cell phone and the like.

Never used a power inverter on a laptop, but I did use one for a personal DVD player on a road trip once. Same basic principle. You do need to be careful since there are a multitude of converters that have different voltages and I think different amps. You need to match the Voltage and also I think the amperage of the inverter to the laptop.

Thanks for the all feedback!

I will rock the laptop for tunes to Triple T instead of switching to my ipod.

I use a 400W, 12V power inverter in my truck with two outlets for my laptop and printer. Plugs into lighter, no issues.

I am not making this up - I saw from my truck one time a gal using her plug-in vibrator on herself. No, she was not driving, she was in the passenger seat. I assume she was using a 12V power inverter in that instance.

Now that I think about it, maybe I should post this helpful hint in the womens forum. hah

I wonder if 800w would be enough for that application ;-)

Thanks for you post. Now I'm used to use a power inverter in car with laptop, the inverter to me is 400w DC 12v to AC 110v power inverter from bestek. My uncle recommend this tool to me in last summer, the way for us to handle it is to connect with car cigarette lighter charger outlet. The advantage of this tool is convenient to take away when camping or travelling around the city. Or you can know more details about it on bestekmall. Warm regards.
