2 ways to do "similar" things. Obviously, putting spacers under the stem will raise the base bar, and putting spacers between the base bar and the elbow pads will not.

I believe it is generally considered faster to have a slammed basebar and to use risers for your stack adjustment.

The amount of navel gazing over miniscule aero differences on this forum is ridiculous. If you are riding courses that you will be on the basebar for any significant period of time, then I think you want to pay attention to the height of that bar as well as your armpads.

I'm not saying aerodynamics dont matter, they do, but depending on the bottle / bento / bike computer / arm postion, frame and bar, and a bunch of other factors, the aero differences may or may not be there. But the position differences are always there. if you are bent over too far on a climb because you wanted "aero" the loss of power can easily be higher than the 2 watts in aero gains. Position first.
