The "sold out" is incorrect (having some issues with our site messages reverting, etc. with our German-based IT team). It's still "coming soon." But there's truth to that; we have a bunch of the Aeroad 8.0 disc models that should be online by the end of the week. You can either check the site, or call our inside team at 833.226.9661. Even if it's not yet online, as long as it's in the system, they can get you sorted with an order.

I just ordered a Canyon Aeroad. I went with the CF SLX Disc 8.0 with Di2. $4500!!! A comparably equipped alternative from the other manufacturers runs anywhere from $2000 to $4000 more.

What’s even crazier is that a few days ago it was listed at $4,299. Moved it up to $4,500 after originally being listed at $5,000

Just had a look at the geometry on those.
Longish reach and low stack. I'm a pretty flexible racer type, but... wow, that's a bike for 5% of the market.

I've narrowed down my next bike to either a Madone or an Aeroad (assuming no other company launches a new model), and I have a few questions for the Madone owners.

If I were to run my own stem and handlebars, how will the routing work? For example, my Zipp Vuka Sprint bar has cables routed internally from hood to bar clamp, and the cables exit before reaching the bar clamp. If this were the case, how does the cable then get into the steer tube if I use a regular stem?

How does the brake on the Madone compare to a traditional brake?

Assume you are talking about a H1 Madone as that geo is similar to the Aeroad. The H2 is drastically different.
I was hoping to be looking at both those as new bike possibilities, but I'd need a H2 Madone so that pretty much makes fitting on an Aeroad pretty much impossible without some drastic spacers and a positive degree stem.

I think I could make a size 52 H2 work if I run a -17 stem. The Madone handlebar is -6, which translates to about 2cm of head tube. That would give me the fit I need on a bike with a 14cm head tube.

Otherwise you are right, as I would need a Madone H1 in size 52 and stack 1-2cm worth of spacers underneath to duplicate my fit. It's too bad that the frame uses a seat mast, as a H2 size 50 would otherwise fit me just fine

Is the size50 H2 too short in the seat tube even with the longer seat post?

I'm headed out of town tomorrow but if I remember I'll try to snap a picture before I leave.

It's a center-pull design pretty much the same as the TriRig, works fine.

Wow that is a lot of bike for the price. I am sure there is some serious freaking out at Trek and Specialized.

Yes it is. Received the bike on Thursday night. I will put it together this weekend. Ordered a new saddle for it which should arrive next week.

I've had a Madone for almost 2 years. I'd rate the brakes as very good compared to any other proprietary/aero brake I've riden. Maybe a slight dropoff compared to normal sram/shimano, but not much. I've got tririg omega on my shiv and I like them better than stock, but they are not in the same class as the madone brakes.

the madone isn't just a great aero bike, it would be a great bike even if it wasn't aero.

I built it from frame and the wrenching takes a little more time, but the engineering on this bike is just smart and it all goes together really easy and the di2 integration is really slick. Also love the integrated garmin mount and tail light mount.

You do need to know your fit before buying, especially if you are doing the integrated bar/stem. You can order the bars with several different reach and width options, but it's a $600 mistake if you get it wrong. You also have options for different seatposts, so able to pick setback.

I usually buy a new race bike every couple years, but I'm still in the honeymoon phase w the madone.

All that said, I recently discovered 2 shallow cracks in my top tube and it sounds like it's probably going to be warrentied. I'm not excited about rebuilding the bike, but I'll get a different color if they let me, so it will have a little new bike excitement. Bike shop said they have not seen the issue before, so sounds like an isolated problem.

You are right, it certainly is. I need the size 52, though I wish I could fit on the size 50

I'll be curious to see how the Madone goes in the next year. I don't need discs but if the industry is set on it I would rather only buy wheel sets once going forward. They are about due for a refresh and it might make a used current rim-brake version a more attractive option financially.

There is Madone disc bike being tested right now.....photo posted earlier in this thread. It's a guess that it could be released around the 2018 TdF, but know one really knows......... I'm probably going to hold off buying a new bike until later this year just to see what is release, when it's available and how much....

Jay,
Can you tell the assembly crew at Canyon USA to not put carbon paste on the saddle clamp. I shouldn't have to spend an hour with a hammer trying to remove it because they basically glued it in there. I just needed to tilt the seat down a couple of degrees. Something that should take like five seconds to accomplish.

I'm in the same boat! I find it ironic that at least part of the reason to push discs is to get people to buy new bikes, but I am in fact putting off a purchase while I wait to see how things shake out.

I am getting frustrated with the difficulty of upgrading older bikes due to lack of compatibility.

Noted.. and thanks for the heads up. Like you, we've used a center punch set on the interior piece of the clamp and a mallet to pop it out, wipe it out and reassemble at a different angle. I know there's a level of safety the assembly/QC team have to adhere to, but will see if this is such an occasion. Thanks for flying it by us.

Just received my Canyon Aeroad and had the SAME issue. I sat there for a while looking for a screw or bolt I had missed and for a while I considered that the tilt simply isn't adjustable. Technically I still haven't gotten the tilt to move and my current saddle needs a different tilt than the stock Fizik. Here is to using the trusty old hammer...

That hammer/mallet and a centerpunch on the inside of that bracket will do the trick to knock it loose. Let me know if you have any issues!
