I'm 37, a contact/glasses wearer since grade school, and I finally pulled the trigger on LASIK this past summer.
It.Is.Fantastic
The whole surgery lasts (like) 7 minutes and you can see immediately after. Expect a few months of regularly applying wetting drops but there really is no pain.
A couple pieces of advice:
- get the procedure in the off-season as you cannot swim for several weeks before/after the surgery
- find the laser eye surgeon in your area that has done a million of these procedures, that has good reviews online, and good follow up care.
- expect that in 5-7 years you may need to start wearing glasses again to read. It was explained to me that around 40 years old is the magic number were your near vision will begin to deteriorate again.
In short, if you got the $, have the surgery.
