I wouldn't say it's baseless. If anything the Ero post, as well as seeing what those who have done a lot of tunnel/track testing, is what led to the trend. Whilst super high has downsides (there's a tipping point with higher yaw and it can make visibility difficult), even just slightly raised tends to test faster.
