I usually ignore my L/R balance. It's generally anywhere between 50/50 and 55/45. However I noticed something today. I had a workout with 4x18 low cadence intervals. During the lower cadence / higher power my L/R seemed to be right at 50/50. However during the 5 minute recoveries it skewed higher to the L. Any explanation for this? I'm not losing any sleep over it, just found it interesting.

What make/model PM recorded the power balance numbers?

Garmin Vector (Gen1)

It is not at all uncommon for people to pedal more asymmetrically at low vs. high intensity.
OTOH, for some people it is the opposite.

I'm right leg dominant but experience the same thing. I first noticed it with low cadence work but after a while I realized (for me) it was more to do with higher watts/intensity. I'm on power2max, not that it matters.

If it's common is there any general rules around correcting this? Are there figures that should be considered "extreme" and be addressed? Example 49/51 split is obviously within margin of error and/or mostly irrelevant. However at what point does this difference become worthy of addressing? 43/57, 44/56 etc?

^ Agree. Your split can vary based on things like intensity, fatigue, cadence, etc.
Regarding when it's extreme and how to correct...I know Hunter at Peaks Coaching Group has done a lot of work in this area. Maybe shoot him note if you're concerned? I personally don't think 55/45 is too big of a deal however...
