Anyone know of any tri stores near Harrisburg? The only one I could find was tri-speed in Maryland. Anyone been there? It is about an hour and a half drive, so I hope it is worth the drive.

Thanks!

Andy

tri stores?!?! you'd be lucky to find bike store with a deep dish wheel, let alone a full shop of tri goodies.

seriously, i grew up in harrisburg (i've since moved) and upon return visits to see the folks, i always venture 'round town to see if anything has changed. not much of a tri scene there and if i recall correctly, tri speed was, in fact, the closest tri shop around. there is a quite friendly and knowledgeable group of roadies over at bushey's in new cumberland if it's bike expertise you seek, but i'm not too sure they speak 'triathlese'.

maybe someone else on this forum is in the know, but i'm doubtful you'll find something in the 'burg.

good luck!

edit: if you're going to drive 1.5 hours anyway, you may want to investigate tri shops in philly.

Andy, I'm in Harrisburg, actually Mechanicsburg. As someone posted earlier, Bushey's is a good bike shop, so is Holmes in Camp Hill and In-Gear in Hummelstown. But there is no "tri" shop in town. Where are you located?

If you are talking about bikes and wheels try Evolution Pro in Buckingham PA (between New Hope and Doylestown) Scott at 215- 794-9600. He does not carry built up bikes, all his bikes (Road, Cross, Tri and MTB) are custom. He listens, asks questions, makes suggestions and does great work at a fair price. He also patiently answers my 1001 questions.

Good luck,

I'm in NEPA, and I don't know of a tri shop on this side of the state. A friend of mine did get fitted at tri speed though, and he said it was very professional. Otherwise, I haven't heard of a true tri shop.

Your from Harrisburg!? Wow, never imagined someone else on here would be from central P.A. I live down in Hershey.

Anyways, local, the best I can say is Busheys. Though its not tri specific, most of the guys know their stuff.

For tri specific, you have to go south... way down south. It stinks living out here.

I'm actually from the Scranton area. But, yea, I don't think PA is represented much here.

Yep, live in Mechanicsburg. I know at least 5 or 6 people at the West Shore Y that tri. It would be great if there was a local club. I'd really like to find some people to do some open water swimming practice in the spring. I'd start a club but have so many responsibilities that I'm pushing it as it is with trying to train, run a business, family time, etc...

Andy,

Since we both live in Mechanicsburg we should at least try to get together to ride. I also workout at the West Shore YMCA, although lately with a newborn those workouts are few and far between. There are at least 3 of us that I know of in the area that have signed up for Ironman Wisconsin.

Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, Scranton... careful guys, you're giving me flashbacks to my college days! If I hear one of you is from South Bethlehem, I'm really gonna freak out.

Sorry, I can't help out on the tri store question. My guess is that they'd be very hard to come by in that area.

Reading this thread brings back my college memories of F&M in Lancaster. Before I knew what Triathlons were, a guy I went to school with placed in the the Israeli Games in '97 I think.

As I understand, there's not a Tri shop in Lancaster either, good luck though.

Did you try York?

After more research, I think the nearest shop is Tri-Speed in Timonium, MD.

Thanks!

Hey Jerry,

I think we know each other actually. You must be the Jerry that used to be the roadie. Putting two and two together since you metioned that you had a newborn. I'm the guy you run into swimming all the time. Also we talked about SVVC one time on the treadmill. The guy's name we were trying to think of was Jay Gaunt. Hope things are going well with your swimming and your son. We'll definitely have to do some riding. I'll be at the Y tomorrow morning for a swim and LS run.

Andy,

Too funny. We do know each other from the Y. Something else too funny, I was feeding my son at 4:30 the other morning and Jay's name popped into my head. I was like holy crap, that's the dentist from Williamsport who's name we couldnt think of. I may run into you tomorrow morning at the Y.
