Can you still flag Strava Segments?
Can you still flag Strava segments? I remember you could do this in the past...all I see now is the ability to flag an entire ride and not an individual segment.

Our local town has a developing cycling advocacy group. Several group rides for all abilities during the week including beginner to promote youth and to get beginners involved in cycling. Plans for bike lanes, installed bike stands, etc, etc. As with many towns, we have a difficult time with the local community anti-cyclist types....weekly FB cycling bashing for running stops signs, lights and so on.......work is being done to try and lessen this conflict. One thing I noticed is on Strava, there are too many segments in our local area that run thru stop signs. I would really like to be able to flag out all these unsafe segments.

Ive made a bunch of long-ish segments that go through stop signs/red lights. I find it helpful as a challange and still stop where im supposed to. If someone is too dumb to stop at a stop sign to try to win an award of nothing then where does the nannying end??

While your presumption that people will run them to win the segment is true, you can’t use pre-crime as a justification to take away things from people.

Instead of engaging in an online pissing match on Strava, why not attend a few club meetings or team meetings locally and ask to provide a short talk about your advocacy.

Or ask the local police to ticket riders AND cars properly.

The Strava approach is a bit childish if tou ask me.

Bike advocacy discussion aside, yes you can flag Strava segment from desktop. I believe you have to have ridden it to flag it though. Go to the leaderboard and click 'Actions' where a 'Flag' option should be.

I don't think you can flag one within your privacy zone though.

Technically Strava considers a segment that goes through a stop sign/stop light/etc... is one of the reasons a segment is to be considered dangerous, so you should not create segments that do that. Only exception would be if you keep the segment private then it really does not matter what you do. Just because you think people should be smart enough not to blow through a stop sign, does not mean you should provide them a possible reason to do so. There have been a number of strava segment related injuries, because people do just that.

Are you gonna develop rule how many meters before stop/light segment has to end so rider can stop safely? Going 60km/h at the end of segment will require some time to stop, Are we gonna need 2 segments one "Dash via Bloor Disk" and "Dash via Bloor Caliper" ?

What about if intersection is already full of cars.... Also did you think about speed limit? In the city it is 40-50km/h, average speeds on most segments are way higher then that, are you gonna report those since they broke the law?

Strava is already useless because self righteous guys like you, so do what you feel is right.

I wouldn't call it useless personally.... but I do find these flaggers to be annoying... two local segments got flagged that for the life of me I can't figure why? Sometimes there are segment that do go through intersection... but come on its Strava, people can choose to use their head or not.

Out of town on roads with no stop signs.. both are up hill segments... they pass a driveway or two?!

If your dumb enough to create a segment that runs a stop sign or even dumber to run a stop sign for a segment - you got bigger problems to worry about...than calling me self righteous.

The segment doesn't run a stop sign, the person does.

You're still not addressing some things said in here, you're choosing to be argumentative and petty.

Are you or are you not going to go to meet with local law enforcement about ticketing riders and car drivers? Are you or are you not going to to talk to local riding clubs and teams?

If not, you're completely wasting your time and are out to piss on other people's Wheaties because you can't find a useful way to use the tool (Strava) yourself.

Why not make Corvette's illegal because they can go 200mph from the factory? Because somebody like you apparently can pre-judge everyone.

Honestly, you're probably more of a problem than the 1 in 10 or 20 out flagrantly running signs. Why? Because when people get petty and argumentative instead of focusing on substance, people will largely start to ignore you or call you out like is happening here. If you pursue legitimate means, people will take you seriously. If you know a segment goes thru some lights, you either hit em green or you don't. Try again another day.

You've got a bit of a personal problem going about trying to be the "thought police" preventing people doing things you assume all of them are going to do.

Also, FWIW, Denmark has both guns and bicycles. And those bicycles have segments on Strava that go through lights and stop signs.

Probably the safest bicycle culture on the planet.

So you think you know better than they do.........great.

I disagree with your premise that Strava is a predominant reason cyclist run stop signs, etc... they run them because they simply do and don't operate as if they were a true motor vehicle.

Not everyone is chasing segments, in fact I'd say very few are.

Agree, that Strava is not a predominant reason.....but a reason non the less.......and not everyone is chasing segments, but many still do. FWIW.....I'm no Strava police - just came across a segment in front of my house, that is all down hill and runs thru a SS at the bottom......
