Culprit Covert Op Aero Stem and Clip on Aerobars, P.E.R.K. saddle/tool bag on indigogo
Quote | Reply
Hi Everyone

After years of working on this project we just launched on indigogo for pre order
https://www.indiegogo.com/...bicycle/x/13290498#/

Quick break down of pricing on pre order

Stem ($60 pre order price,+ $20 shipping) = 80 USD (110 retail + shipping)
Aerobar with alloy extension ($90 pre order price + $32 shipping) = 122 USD (140 retail + shipping)
Aerobar with carbon extension ($156 pre order price + $32 shipping) = 198 USD(240 retail + shipping)
P.E.R.K. Saddle bag (Pre order price $65+$20 shipping)= 85 USD (100 +shipping retail)

We also launched clip on aerobars which are on par with Profile design and even more positions when matched with our 4 stem lengths.

I kindly ask that you help us share the word of our campaign and do pledge/support us to reach our goal and bring the product to market.

I will be glad to answer any questions here about the new products.

That stem looks awesome! Quick note: you might want to clarify pricing. I think you lost the plot on the second sentence.

The saddle bag also looks awesome! Is that a mini beam wrench? ðŸ˜

I take it the top of the stem is a mostly cosmetic piece to route the cables over the steerer tube? Btw you might want to include a link to your indiegogo. I haven't found it as of yet...

Those clip ons look really good. I am looking for a new set so I can get a bit more reach and a bit lower than the PD T2 set I currently have. What is the reach adjustment possibilities? Looks like a lot but doesn't say on the description.

Thanks, forgot the link.....

Yes, cover is cosmetic. Non structural. Bar Bore and stem base are all the structure so for set up you can ride cover off til you dial in fit, then cut the steerer. etc.

Sram ETAP blip box fits in 100 and 110 mm tested. Need to check 90 sample in the future to see if it fits.

ST. You have been asking for a way to hide ETAP and Di2 with access without using your bento boxes. Here is that product. Please do be a backer

Just for curiosity, how strong is the stem and clip on setup? Could you run it without a basebar, aero or die style?

I don't understand the question

We aren't releasing the bar bore version yet as it isnt up to my stiffness goals.

This launch is for our stem and a 31.8 clip on aerobar. So. Needs a bar to attach to.

I really quite like this. A readily adjustable aerobar that’s neat and not silly money is what most (non) riders need.

Just checking: are the extensions 7/8†/ 22.2mm?

33 mm of steerer above your headset is recommended for safety.

I dont have access to one to check. Felt hasn't seen 3d to verify. But longer stem has 2 cable stopd so should be able to run inner cable to front brake.

Yah

I will update video next week. My samples of spacers came after my video shoot. So sent to vidoegrapher to do a video of actual product stacked, etc,

The spacers are designed to tuck di2 icable n the back pushed in place.and a cable holder clip Part A of B should also work from jagwire allowing mechanical to be clipped in before going into stem keeping cables hidden from the wind from the front.

Will offer 5mm, 10 mm, 20 mm, 40 mm, 60 mm, 5 mm bridge.

0-80 mm total. However. each stack is 4 bolts. So thats my concern shipping weight right now.

Will discuss internally this weekend and see what options we have to include in shipping and at what price increase.

Waiting on final bolt pricing as well

Cheers

It is a cornerstone for Tri bikes but I am also catering to the road market with this stem. Which is why I didn't design BTA mount into cover.

Road and tri market is heading to fully hidden cables. My patent helps keep this stem unique in that it is an open faced design with accessible cables at all times, easier for travel and assembly which should be an option I hope to sell OEM spec to road and tri brands.

Besides. we all hope Sram actually improves the blip box.

Bummer I was about to pull the trigger today. I was hoping it would be -17 I wanted to switch this out with my current stem but with the -10 according to ttbike fit stem calculator it would raise my stack 12mm. If anything I would be trying to at least stay the same or lower. I am curious why the -10 for an aero stem? maybe I am wrong but I thought -17 on most tri bikes is what is most common. Did you try to find a middle ground for road and tri bike use?

Mass market appeal

most common on road bikes is -6 to -10 or even positive rise for some. Tri bikes you sometimes find -17. But honestly not many stems are -17 on bikes as the average rider doesn't ride that agressively.

Had to choose an angle that would be best for both road and tri. And had to study what was on the market to compete against and those were PRO missile and 3T integra both at -10.

Sorry we were not able to meet your needs.
. if we fund, a different angle is definitely in the plans but Tri market is really small compared to road segway and I want to see this product on OEM spec for road bikes and tri bikes with fully hidden cables, while still allowing athletes the ability to travel with the bike with handlebar removal.

Also, biggest cost is the cover in tooling. So that is a limiter and reason for the high funding goal. It allows me to keep the unit pricing retail reasonable at 110 USD with lower unit cost but higher up front tooling costs. This also means opening more sizes and angles comes at a very high mold fee. So had to choose one that works well rounded for all.

If you need extremely low. The profile Ultimate Aeria(my direct competition) is I believe -22 degrees, so should help you reach your fit numbers.

Hope that explanation is clear. Thanks for your honesty

I was hopeful this might be a future option for a Felt IAxx stem replacement but alas, you recommend 33mm of steerer to clamp to and if I'm not mistaken the Felt IAxx steerers have been cut to 29mm for their stock stem.

So, either I have that dimension wrong or you've already ruled out most people's Felt IAxx as a candidate for this stem. A shame as it does look like it would have been a very interesting option.

29 mm is above headset top cap right?

Does that include the expander plugs height added in? most expander plugs are 2-3 mm added height.

I just remeasured and it should work but I don't have an IA xx available to me in Taiwan to check.

Kiley has a stem for review., I'll see if he can check locally. unsure if he can though as he has a build ready for it to use for testing.

If someone in the Philadelphia area wants to stop by with an IAx to try if it works, feel free to PM me. Can the effective IAx steerer be increased with an ultra low duster cap, or by removal of the duster cap? I'm not too familiar with that stem/steerer junction

Sorry my post got cut off.

Do you think it can run mechanical shifter cables through the stem for a bike that still has downtube cable entry?

Ill check with a frame locally but don't see why not. If your in no stack on aeerobar you can run shifter s through. But if your putting stack shift cables might not run smoothly. But thats true for any mechanical shifting bike and any stem on market.

I would zip tie the 3 cables together and zip tie that to one around a spacer and that will help keep cables in place behind stem. The culprit tri bike in video has downtube brake cable run that way. But ot was built up sram etap shifters with the blip box under the stem cover. So i haven't tested shifting cables yet into downtube.

We are still looking at other options. However, we will inform and offer best pricing to those who supported our campaign. So I would advise backing regardless. If we do not fund our goal, nothing lost. Then you will be on our list of people to contact when we can offer the stem.

We are trying to do full cnc versions, different covers with or without di2 inside, etc in full cnc to bring down tooling costs but that will raise unit pricing.. currently checking if we can get di2 in the smaller size in stem body cavity.

Also, waiting on full cnc quotes and a supplier who has shown interest to do lower quantities. Then, need to make stems/samples and EN test again, etc....

So, we are doing what we can, but still, NEED orders to justify the cost and show demand for the product.

I've been meaning to post a review of the saddle bag... also been meaning to build up the bike 🙄 Alas, I had to go out of town this weekend for work again. Anyways I can say that your saddle bag is basically a complete portable tool kit. There's very little that you can't fix on the bike with that tool kit and it's configuration is a perfect blend of size, organization, and usability. That's the key thing: you can actually use that kit on the side of the road without dumping bits out onto the road and then having to chase tools in the grass etc. It's a proper tool kit.

Also, the mini beam wrench is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I love that thing.
