Has this replaced the super sonics on race day for you?

Probably a safe bet to run a 23 up front and a 25 in the rear, didn't the 23 spread out quite a bit?

The 23 measures 25 on my Enve 7.8s so the 25s would probably measure 27

I just measured a 23 on a Jet + at 25.8 and 23.9 on a Jet C2. The 25s would be YUGE.

Today I road a Supersonic upfront (older 23mm) and a Corsa Speed (tubeless) on the rear at Ironman Wisconsin. Although I pumped them up too much, wow those Wisconsin roads were brutal.

My n=1 is that these are much more fragile than SS. So much so I'm going back. I'd donate that W or 2 for reliability and durability. Never thought I would say that about the SS!

There has definitely be the talk about that. For me I have 3x 70.3, 2 sprints, and now an Ironman without issue *** knock on wood ****

Yeah you can only take them as you find them. I was very lucky to survive my first and only 70.3 on them with a 5mm gaping cut and bulge with visible latex tube beneath. In two minds whether to stick a patch or the inner of the tyre to stop tube herniation and fill with black witch or just bin.
I had one pair of supersonic last me 20tts two 140s and a 70

How about going the other extreme. If you are willing to give up some cush for your tush, maybe the faster bet would be to use a 20 mm Supersonic or 20 mm GP4000s as a front tire.

I agree. I have a roadie buddy that's been through 4 Corsa speed and ran ss for 2 years no issues.

Do not try to go faster on the 700x20 GP4000! That thing is a Crr turd. I have no idea what Conti does to the 20 to make the casing so stiff. In my roller testing it is way off the SS 20 and the 23 mm GP 4000.

Too bad though because it is a killer faster looking tire on a HED 3

Good to know. I am currently using a 23 mm GPTT on the front but was thinking of switching to a 20 mm SS. Not sure if there is much to be gained there. I would suspect the 23 mm GPTT would roll about the same as the 20 mm SS, however, the 20 mm SS may be quite a bit more aero. The 23 mm GPTT is definitely a wider tire on my Swiss Sides than a 23 mm GP4000.

I had the same experience: second tt with the Vittoria I flatted. Haven't flatted in a race in years. Coincidence? Maybe. Nevertheless I have gone back to SS.

What size of SS is everyone using on their front wheel - 20 mm or 23 mm? For reference I us two different front wheels, Hed Jet and Swiss Side, both of which are 23 mm at the brake track.

The 20mm SS measures close to 24mm on Jet+ rims. IMO, that's likely the fastest CRR + Aero combo.

The Jet Plus is over 20 mm on the inside of the brake tracks. The Jet and Swiss Sides are 17 mm. I would think the 20 mm SS would be about 22 mm on either of those two wheels. That sounds about perfect. The 23 mm GPTT bulges out past the outside of the brake tracks which is less than ideal.

The 23mm GP TT is an aero dud for a front wheel... over 26mm on a Jet+ IIRC. Great rear tire though. I'd wait a month or so for Flo to finish their casing tension study. I suspect tires like the 22mm Attack will move up the rankings once CRR tests adequately adjust for casing tension.

That's crazy about the GPTT. Will definitely stop using that tire as a front. Swiss Side recommends the 23 GP4000 for the front Hadron despite the much lower rolling resistance of the GPTT. A 23 or 25 GPTT is their recommendation for the rear Hadron.

I can't speak for the Hadron (though I'd imagine it has a similar profile to the Jet+) but for a Jet+ I'd run either a 22mm Attack or a 20mm SS for the front. All three tires use the same tread compound and casing. The GP4000S is 2.9mm thick, the Attack II is 2.2mm thick, and the SS is 1.9mm thick. The GP4000S and Attack II both have a Vectran breaker which supposedly saps about 1w. So the Attack II should roll *slightly* faster than the GP4000S and it should be in the same aero ballpark on account of being narrower (but shorter) and having a tread pattern to "trip" or "energize" or whatever you want to call what it does to the boundary layer. It does something because Swisside found a difference by mounting the treads of the GP4000S and Attack backwards.

I'm starting to think I need to go back to my Turbo Cottons after switching to GP TT 23 front and 25 rear

I'll probably never get GP's again... Turbo Cottons for the win.

Keep knocking on wood. After zero flats in 5 years, I have had two flats (separate tires) on Corsa Speeds in about 130-140 miles. At least the last one sealed somewhere around 50-60 psi, down from 93. Hit it with a co2 after letting it sit at the bottom with sealant (Orange Seal), but still spewed back down to 70 or so.

The first puncture I probably deserved on any race tire, but the second was literally a pebble that went through the center of the tread. Maybe a quarter mile onto a road chip-sealed last month and psssst...sealant stripe.

I am running the same setup HED S7/disc with 23mm VCS for race day and I recently picked up a pair of the HED Jet 6+ for racing and training. I put on a pair of 25mm Schwalbe ProOne tubeless tires and have a few training rides on them and they ride incredibly well. The 25mm tire on the Jet 6+ is huge compared to the 23mm VCS on the Stingers. The 25mm brake track on the Jets is a little easier to make work with the brakes though.

I was going to use the Vittoria tubeless but after reading about how fragile they are and difficult to mount I went with the Schwalbe. I have already been through 2 pair of the tubeless Schwalbe Ironman tires on my road bike and have been very pleased with the ride and performance. They are no more difficult to mount than any other clincher tire I have dealt with.

I think what amazes me about this whole discussion is if you think back to 2012-2013 when I was starting to RANT on the SS everyone was super skeptical about the tire. Anyone today that hasn't followed the discussion won't touch it with a 10-foot pole, but by large, if people tried them they had quite a positive experience just like you. It just reminds me that it is the magic of Conti's casing and NOT the puncture strip.

I was scared when I held one but that scepticism soon left. If only they were still available rather than the crap pseudo TT they are pushing as SS now
