the Boulevardier is a fantastic cocktail, winter or summer. Just correct a few things.
Rule number one with any negroni/variation - USE good vermouth. Carpano Antica is worth the price of admission.
Rule Two - ditch the child's play cherries - Luxardo makes some cherries that are the biznass.
For most cocktails calling for whiskey, I reach for the Rittenhouse. That's my katchup of cocktails. Its fairly cheap and give that Boulevardier the snap it calls for.
Good tips. Thanks! Regarding the cherries - I normally just use orange peel, but I did not have any oranges.

I am not trying to convert you to Gin, but is there a cocktail flavor/taste that you favor? I find Gin is as versatile as whiskey in cocktails.
To me, gin tastes like paint thinner. My son loves gin and tonic, which we joke about. But, put it in a mixed drink an I am fine. In fact, I like dirty martinis. I just love to poke fun at windy.

But if you want to blow your wife's socks off with some good tequilla, try Del Maguey's VIDA mezcal. Its fairly common in liquor stores. Just ask for Vida. If you put some Vida mezcal, Carpano antica, and campari (aka mezcal Negroni) you will have a hit. And if you want to amp that up - add a few drops of Bitterman's Xocolatl Mole Bitters (that shit is love btw), and that spicy chocolate balances out the smokiness of the mezcal.
Thank you again!
