In need of a new kit
Hoping to get some suggestions on some new clothing options. I've been wearing a Zoot racerback top and orca tri shorts for races, but I'd like to replace these pieces with some new gear.

I'd like the top to be sleveless, but have a full back - not racer back (too much sun). For shorts, I'm not too picky - just comfortable and effective. I'd also like a new sports bra to wear underneath the new top.

About me: I'm a larger girl - 5'11, about 175#. I usually wear a L top and XL bottom in tri gear...medium in normal clothing...ugh, tri sizing!

Any recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't seen many non racer-back tri tops out there but I have a pair of these: https://www.desotosport.com/...de-of-skin-cooler-90 and they are very nice.

I am not a fan of Desoto shorts, but I really like their tops. This one is sleevelss and full back. I appreciate that it is full zip, which is really hard to find and a deal breaker for me.

For shorts, I like Shebeest lava shorts. Unfortunately, they do this weird thing where they make a bunch of them at the beginning of the year, then when the sell out, they are just gone. I can't find any that aren't XS.

Would you ever wear a branded kit? I picked up a TrainingPeaks kit (Pactimo) for under $100 and I've really liked it. Mine has sleeves though. I admit it - I'll sell my soul to the corporation in exchange for money. I don't care if I'm judged or viewed as a poser. But, I've used TP for over 10 years so I figure they may have earned my loyalty. I've been happy with the Pactimo TP kit. The padding is a bit thicker than I like but it doesn't feel like a diaper. I really like the fabric and lines - it somehow manages to hide the extra tummy luggage and does as good a job as any at slimming my extra fat ass (that is where I pack it all). And it has a pocket. And no built in attempt at a bra. I'm a L on the bottoms and an XL on the top. The top is racing style and I should have gotten an XXL to hide my sins. Bottoms fit me fine (I wear a 31 in jeans). 5'9" / 160 (should be 145).

I'm a similar size and just bought a louis garneau top and shorts for an IM. Loved it. I like a longer length short. The top was long too.

How do you find Coeur's sizing? Is it true to "tri" sizing fit? (e.g. I find Castelli to run teeny tiny, but Luis Garneau to run slightly larger.)

It's pretty true to size and very consistent. One of the many things I love about their stuff is that they offer such a wide range of sizing from xs all the way up to 2XL !

And they are fabulous to deal with !! Great people :-)

I have recently moved from Zoot to Wattie Ink tri gear. It is a bit more spendy but it does feel as if, and I am sure it is, a much better fabric. I really love the tri shorts as it seems to hold everything in place and does hide the dreaded belly bulge I have. The shorts also seem to stay in place, where my zoot shorts seemed to move while running in the quads causing irritation. Now, the Wattie tri top is not my favorite as I like to have a looser fell around my upper body when running but it is great for the swim and bike of an IM. Hope this gives you another option.

Just have to interject, as a womens who was thinks similar things about myself re. extra luggage. I saw the pic of your bike fit on the other forum, and my impression was "wow -- she looks strong and awesome".

If you'd like more sun coverage, have you considered getting an aero sleeved top? Most sleeveless tops are going to be racerback, whereas the sleeved tops obviously have you covered, literally! I moved to aero tops this season. I liked the Wattie one on the bike, but it was awful for me for running. It has a band on the bottom that is supposed to grip, but since it's elasticized, it just made the top ride up to the smallest part of my waist. I ended up racing in a Coeur top, since that stayed put on the run. I've had success with SOAS tops in the past too, but they only carry racerback ones.

I thought about getting sleeves, but the thought of running with sleeves sounds horrible to me.

Thank you, I'm going to look into wattie. I would prefer something slightly looser, not baggy, but not skin tight that doesn't ride up, as my current zoot top tends to do.

What's everyone's take on Betty Designs? I seem to see it everywhere, or maybe it's just because it stands out.

Don't have their tri stuff but I have a lot of their bike stuff and find it is good quality. I like the chamois on the bike shorts.

Really? Wow. Thank you. I wish you were my mirror! I've worked my ass off this year to lighten the luggage. As mum always says, exercise makes fitness, food makes fat. I just love my food. And my girlfriends and I are all empty nesters now with our kids off adulting so we are having way too much fun with our freedom.

Related to kits, anybody ever have the front zipper of your kit dig into the mummy tummy? I'm thinking about duck taping my tummy right where the bottom of the zipper hits for races. Would duck tape work? It isn't a problem in the shorter races, but the 70.3 distance is enough pedaling in aero where the kit zipper is pushed down into my crunched up gut and it just keeps on digging in (and it isn't glide-fixable; tried that).

Yep, really!

Re. kit zippers digging in... one of my favourite kits is the Garneau ITU suit, with the zipper in the back. Nothing in front to rub on the tummy. It's like racing naked (but without the chafing) -- so comfy.
