George Romero, Father of the Modern Zombie Movie Genre, Passes Away at 77

"Night of the Living Dead" was the first full-on zombie horror movie I ever saw (at a drive-in theater, and at age 9) and I confess to hiding behind the front seats of my parents' '66 AMC Rambler station wagon during many of that classic movie's scenes. At other times, I was ordered to cover my eyes by my parents. Whatever.

At any rate, George A. Romero, the movie's co-writer and director, has passed away at age 77 after a brief battle with lung cancer.

He knew how to do the zombie right, too. I think that all of the "zombie rules" can be traced back to his "Living Dead" movies, as well. And he was no fan of "The Walking Dead," as the article shows.

They're coming to get you, Barbara... ;-)
