My Neighbor "Angry Al"
Our lot is rectangular, and our "kitty corner" neighbor on the back (does that make sense?) is an elderly couple. They have an adult son who lives with them and has, shall we say, "issues." He spends the days (and many evenings) in a small wooden shed that's shoehorned into the corner of their backyard that's closest to ours. I gather from the mechanical noises that occasionally emanate therefrom that he fabricates things (I have no idea what, but I like to imagine that he sculpts).

He also screams obscenities in foul torrents, though he usually only does so during the day when neighbor kids (including our young daughter) aren't home. He generally tones it down when they're around, but there's an occasional outburst. But at this moment (I'm working from the kitchen table this afternoon), he's in rare form, screaming "MOTHERF**KER!!! F**K YOU!!!" etc., etc., etc. It sounds as if he's in total rage, tensing every muscle in his body as he yells. I can't imagine that he's not beet red with veins bulging and sweat on his brow. I've never heard any noises that would suggest he's throwing things or that he ever becomes physical when he rages.

I've always assumed there's no one in there with him because nobody ever yells back. By chance, my wife saw the guy's dad at a museum soon after we moved in and all he said was, "I guess you've heard our son." My wife said something like, "yep..." and that was it. The dad offered no explanation.

Is this tourettes? Coprolalia? Are the two distinguishable (I really don't know)?

War is god

He is probably just venting. I have been known to do that.

One time I was trying to change the water pump in a 1989 Ford Bronco II and it probably elicited the worst tirade I've ever had. I was cussing Henry Ford and every engineer who ever worked for him. That was 25 years ago and I'm still pissed.

Well, seeing as he's your neighbor it may be worth talking to him.

Coprolalia is the cursing tic sometimes associated with Tourette's syndrome. They are distinguishable because they aren't comparable.

There's about a 50/50 chance that's me whenever I try to do something requiring mechanical skills.

He's got issues but who knows what they are. Just as long as he's not directing his anger your way its OK.

Was changing the master cylinder on my Land Cruiser. That particular year had an entirely jacked up brake system. After a truly frustrating stretch I let out a really fine stream.

My neighbor looks up from what he is doing from across the yard and just smiles, "problems?"

One of the benefits to living in the country is my neighbors aren't precious snowflakes who want to diagnose my mental health issues when I properly express myself.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.
