Rant Alert: How many reminders do I need of my bikes manufacturer?
I just bought a frame on the Slowtwitch Classifieds. Before I start to hang parts on the bike, I decided to paint the bike. Did I do this so it would match my bitchin Hyundai Sonata? No. I painted my bike because the frame was uglified with it's manufacturers name or logo THIRTEEN times. If I was a pro who was paid to promote their brand, I would understand. Even with that, a NASCAR race car has "Ford", "Chevrolet", "Toyota" or "Hudson Hornet" in less spaces!

As a dude who tries to ride faster than my slow friends, or other random old folks a few times a year, does the Cervondaletrekuji bike company really want to claim me? Do I need a reminder inside the chainstay, when I change my tire of how wise I was to buy a Cervondaletrekuji bike? My bigger, faster more bitchin Hyundai Sonata only has 3 logo's or branding on the body. If add the wheels, handlbars, saddle, cable housing, seatpost, hubs, handlebar tape, waterbottle cage, tires, brakes, shifter, this level of endorsement could get into triple figures.

Industry folks, please tone it down a little. Maybe you come up with a distinctive and trademarked paint scheme, like Gulf Oil did with their LeMans livery. Make the badge you put on the headtube a three dimensional work of art, like the old steelies that hipsters are turning into fixies. Anything is better than slapping your name on it enough times to make Ricky Bobby look reserved and understated!

My original Felt B16 had the name "Felt" on it more than 50 times. (This is partly do to the fact that the bike comes stock with Felt Wheels, aerobars, saddle and brakes).

So 13 times seems like nothing.

It's not something that has ever "annoyed" me, but it's certainly something I've noticed.
Cervelo seem to be the least guilty of this amongst the big names.

Of course, the other side of this argument is that many people pay a premium to ride a bike from these companies. Having others know that you ride a top brand rather than some budget frame is a part of the attraction for a lot of people.

Fist thing I did with my P3al was heat gun the stickers off. Was the first time in a long time I was able to get at the stickers and avoid painting!

Yeah my Cervelo S2 has the name labeled three times. Each side of downtube and once on the seat tube.

To rephrase my previous comment, I would say that Cervelo aren't in fact guilty of this at all.
A name/logo on each side of the down tube is essentially the minimum, unless you expect people to identify your product from aesthetics alone (not a problem for many STers, but near impossible for the general majority).
They have a right to brand their product enough for it to be identifiable to the layman.

Of course Cervelo have the advantage of being pretty iconic as far as bike brands go. You rarely have to shout when you are the biggest guy in the room.

It's a bit of a pain having lots of logos on everything but thats the way of the world. More often than not people want to display the brand they have bought of anything as the brand and the image that conveys is the reason they bought it in the first place.

If you're not keen on displaying the world and their wife's brand on your stuff it's relatively easy to cover it up. A nice custom paint job and some well placed tape/ sharpie application does the job.

I think Fuji was the worst offender years ago with this thing. Those white lines that fade in then out around the main Fuji logo? Yeah, those just say Fuji over and over again.

What I'm really tired of these days is every manufacturer coming up with meaningless jargon and then ensuring that you know exactly where and what it is one the bike by labeling each and every tube with it.

I know I'd love looking down and being reminded of all those things that do various bicycle related things, It probably helps shops point to those things and explain the totally unique (ha!) technology that makes that frame so much better than all the others, but how about some peelable stickers so we can debadge it once we take it home.

I just checked and my Fuji road bike has the name 11x.
I'm guessing the convention comes from pro bikes having the excessive branding, and creating the look.

For comparison, a Porsche 911 has the name 14x, just on the exterior....and they offer extras like having it embroidered on the headrests.

Before the Shiv I almost bought the Specialized Transition. The reason I didn't: the logo plastered on every available space. It was hideous amount of stickers.

It's quite common for prestige car manufacturers give you the option of having the car de-badged before delivery. Not the manufacturer logo but the extra logos telling you the model etc.

I'm with you. My bike has it way too much, and the letters are too big, plus they're white/light gray on black.
there's some model of treck out there, a black road frame with dark gray letters. that's more my style.

part of why i'd never by a Look bike. It just makes it that much more clear.

If you count the p3 and the é my p3 has ten. Chain stay, seat post, down tube, seattube, top tube, fork times two. Bit the only really noticeable ones are the seattube, top tube, and down tube.

I also think that it would be very interesting to see how hard it would be to build a full bike with no logos on it. And i'm talking full thing here. Frame, wheels, tires, components, bars, and as small as stem, spacers, top cap, cable housing, ferrules.

I think a lot of it would be open mold Chinese.

when i was a bike maker, i was a LITTLE bike maker. we did not have the ability to paint our sponsored athletes bikes differently than the bikes we sold to the general public.

we were making an interesting and somewhat popular bike back in the early 90s and we had good athletes, so we got into the magazines quite a bit. however, either by choice or by the luck of the draw our logos didn't make it in the photo.

so we went through the magazines, looked at all the places we weren't getting our company name in the pic, and added decals. we had our company name not only on the downtube, but twice in each side of the downtube, above and below. and on the seat stays. and near the front of the top tube.

it wasn't that we were unsure whether you knew the name of the bike you bought, and needed reminding. it's just for the reason above.

My TitanFlex has exactly 2 logos. One each on the sides of the down tube. I also have Stealth Black FLO 60/90s that you can only read the logos up close.

One of the absolute worst was the original paint of the first gen Trek Speed Concept. That was hideous. Such a beautiful frame, marred by the inane plastering of repeating logos.

I have a hard time imagining an issue I care about less than this. Sorry, I just don't see it.
