I have two almost teenage girls so I am somewhat up to date on the present pop music scene however this fact floored me:

Her latest album, 1989, sold an astonishing 1.287 million copies last week, making it the biggest debut of the year and her third album to sell more than a million copies in its first week, making her the first artist to have three albums go platinum on their debut.

Really, the first artist ever?

I guess what surprises me is that I was under the impression that kids these days didn't buy albums anymore, I thought it was all about just downloading individual songs. On the other hand I suspect young people have more buying power these days then ever.

Great point. An with albums costing upward of $15 there must be a lot of "kids" with spending money.

How are downloads counted? I heard something on the radio about this, but, wasn't paying close attention. What I do remember is the comment that it is both easier and harder to reach Platinum status. Harder b/c kids do not buy entire albums like they used to. Easier b/c they do not have to travel to a brick and mortar store to buy them and can get them instantly. There was something about down downloads are counted, but, I do not remember it.

From Billboard:

If you buy a whole album at one time (for example, using the "Buy Album" button on iTunes), it counts as one album sold. If a consumer buys one or multiple tracks from an album separately, those count as a "track purchase."

That makes sense. I know that a lot of artists release singles prior to the album release. Don't some albums come out electronically in album form only?

Given that Microsoft is selling the entire 1989 album for $0.99, it is not too surprising that she sold so many full albums.

To sum it up, Taylor Swift is HUGE. She's the number one selling artist who has started his/her career since 2006. Rhiana is slightly ahead (as of the wikipedia update) but started in 2005. Swift has sold more albums than Metallica. Emenim and Mariah Carey are the only other artists ahead of her that started in the 90s. Everyone else has had decades and decades of time to record and sell albums.

As stated earlier, there's two ways to look at it. Fewer people buy albums than they used to, but if they want to buy it, they can easily get it the say that it comes out.

Oh, also, I find her insanely hot.

Meh. She is also batshit crazy, by most accounts. You wouldn't want to date her. You would just end up the subject of one of her songs.

The platinum category has only been around since the mid-70s. Usually it takes awhile to sell a million copies. I think the first certified platinum album was the Eagles greatest hits album.

I don't know that it's so surprising for her to be the first to have three separate albums sell more than 1 million copies on debut (i.e. in the first week after release). That's a shit ton of album sales for a single week.

There is a reason that Cover Girl uses her face - and that's because she has beautiful features.

As for you preferring Boy George's ass to Taylor Swift's. I guess that's up to you, not that there is anything wrong with that. :)

Have you ever seen those Brazilian best-ass competitions where they judge the ass-tasticness without being able to see the rest of the woman? (If not, get thyself to google, stat.) I'm saying that Taylor Swift would fare poorly in that competition and would likely not beat out the likes of Boy George. I'm not saying that he would do well in the over-all competition. Just that he'd beat her.

I do agree that she is too skinny (for my tastes). I prefer a woman with some womanly curves, especially in the booty. If given a choice, I'd take great butt and so-so boobs over great boobs and flat butt.

See, the tall, leggy, young thing needs to have a couple more attributes in order to be attractive (admittedly, I'm a brunette kinda guy so the 'blonde' part doesn't help her cause). TS just ain't got it. She's a walking twig on stilts, with mediocre plastic-like facial features. I'm a bigger fan of the likes of Ariana Grande.

P.S. Is FastTwitch.com an actual thing?

Ok I can understand you not thinking she's "The hottest" or "Amazing", but really, you think she's "Not attractive"?

I'm a bigger fan of the likes of Ariana Grande.

Maybe I'm missing the right pic or something but AG does not appear to be very "Curvey" either. Their body types are fairly similar except TF has longer legs. Personally I find both attractive but neither particularly more attractive then the other.

Two things I dislike about her, careerwise

Built her fan-base in Country Music; then [when people found out she was from Pennsylvania: "Hey y'all, why's she talk funny?"] quickly had to become a Top 40 Pop Star

Bat-shit crazy real-life break-up songs are nothing new, but she acts like she invented the genre [although, she may have perfected it]

AAAHhhhhhh nightmares of GRE coming back!

My littlest kid loves her to pieces because she is pretty. My older two cannot stand her because they don't like her music. Me? I am no judge of what men would find hot (me being a girl and all), but I think she is quite beautiful and appears to have her head on straight. I appreciate that she is consciencious of her image being portrayed to girls like my 8 year old. It took me a good 5 months to get rid of the Monster High doll programming.

I'm in the same boat as you on this one. She's very attractive. It's some combination of youth & beauty (the only things that matter in this life, after all), her drive to be successful, her talent, her seemingly girl-next-door charm in public interactions with fans, at least what appears to be a tight family life, what seems to be a clean lifestyle, and what appears to be just enough crazy/drama to keep her more interesting but not dangerous or insane.

The video is a mess. There some “Ghost in the Machine” in there with the kind of bodysuit, some Thor with ligtening and thunder, some sci-fi nonsense with shape shifting robots, etc.

Not the best looking I’ve ever seen her, but her body looks pretty decent in the Tron/Ghost suit.
