What's Your Endurance Bucket List?
Not sure if this has been asked before, but what endurance races/accomplishments do you hope to do before you kick it?

Mine:

Seven marathons in seven continents, with six of the seven being an Ironman event

Fifty marathons in fifty states

Badwater Ultra

RAAM

Western States 100

Leadville 100 (mountain bike and footrace)

Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Race

There's a lot more, but I'd be a good half hour typing this out.

Not that long I would have produced a list similar to yours (Badwater, WS100, RAAM) and added Marathon Des Sables.
Now, I do not really have one and currently mostly focus on being out there and the next race (which are a bunch of Fall %Ks & 10Ks)..

I like this topic!

I always wanted to do Escape from Alcatraz Tri and any Ironman. I did both of those this year.

I would say:
London Marathon
Boston Marathon
Kona Ironman

I really like the unique races as well. Always wanted to do the Rekyavik (SP), Iceland marathon.

(the ultramarathons don't tickle my fancy yet)

I have a long term goal to do a sub-9hr IM before I'm 40.

Lots of other "endurance bucket list" boxes to tick on the way, but that's what gets me out the door at the mo'.

Sounds ambitious but by the time I'm ready I'm convinced sub-9 will be the new sub-10 ;)

Kona
Comrades
Pikes Peak - marathon, ascent or double, doesn't really matter
A 100 mile trail run. Any mountain course would do.
Boston
A collection of other assorted marathons too long to list.

The elusive sub 16 5K and 2:35 marathons would be nice, but those are unlikely to happen as I am getting older and I swim and bike too much.

I'm on an ultramarathon kick. I've already done marathons, and I've already done Ironman (6 of them). To top that, I've recently done the Vermont 100. How do I top that?

Arrowhead 135 (running in subfreezing temps)
Badwater 135 (either the race or solo in searing temps)
Hardrock 100 (one of the toughest ultras in North America)
Fulfill the Grand Slam of Ultras (Western States 100, Vermont 100, Leadville 100, and Wasatch Front 100 in same year)
Do a Double Ironman (there are 2 to choose from and I might do one next year)

Some ridiculous fantasy things that I've thought about include running the 2000 mile Appalachian Trail or running across the United States. They probably won't happen, but hey, I can dream right?

Still to Do:

Boston
Kona
Comrades
A 100 mile trail race (Western states or Leadville...)
International IM

I'm crossing one off this weekend - Solo 24 hour MTB race at Moab

I've completed 3 Ultras, 3 IM's, a handful of double centuries, a couple dozen marathons...but I figure anything
I've done must not be all that hard and I'm much more interested in what would challenge me going forward.

Depending how long I ride this weekend - I think the 24 hour solo could put me deeper into the hurt locker than anything
so far. Riding past my camper every 2 hours makes for an easy bailout... so I'm not sure how hard I'll actually make it.

Do the Ford Ironman Triathlon World Championships again.

Do a HALO jump on oxygen from above 15,000 feet.

Other stuff....

I'd like to do some more climbing but I don't like being above 22,000 feet- you just feel too crummy up there.

Not really endurance oriented but I'd like to dive with whale sharks, and I'd like to see a tiger shark and a white shark in person prefereably without a cage.

I'd also like to visit the Okavango Delta after having been to the Ngorongoro Crater.

I'd also like to have a nice lunch with hummous, good bread, a nice smoothie and an excellent salad along with a shish tawook and rice at a sidewalk cafe in downtown Baghdad without worrying about being safe.

For all of you who have RAAM on your bucket list, check out the Ranonneurs USA website at http://www.rusa.org/ And also the Ultramarathon Cycling Associantion at http://www.ultracycling.com/
Randonneurs USA organizes brevets (rides) of 200, 300, 400 and 600km. And then there are additional randonnees of 1200km except in years when Paris-Brest-Paris is held. (Every four years. Next in 2011.) The 1200km randonnees can be used as qualifiers for RAAM For all of you Ironmen/women, you'll be more than challenged completing a 1200km randonnee within the RAAM qualifying time.

I'd like to bike across the USA, west-to-east, ocean-to-ocean. I'd also like to do something in Europe, maybe central spain, over teh pyrennes into France, then over the ALps into Italy or Switzerland.

I'd like to run the NY marathon, perhaps Boston. I've qualifed for both (NY gets significantly easier once you're 40!), just haven't done them. Kind of a logistics thing.

5. Put up a new route on K2
6. Climb Denali in winter wearing nothing but a Speedo.

Upgrading to cat2 road cycling (I'm cat4 at the moment, and not a particularly good one)
Qualifying for Kona
Running a sub 3 marathon
Respectably running the crater lake marathon
Probably something similar to the Canadian ski marathon.
Eco challenge
And not really endurance per se, but rock climbing mid 5.12 grade

Some variety there and a few pipe dreams (eco challenge). Really I'd just like to try adv racing and some forms of competitive xc skiing, don't know a huge amount about either at the moment tho.

Best on-site I've ever done is 10.b sport on-site and 8+ trad clean (on a route that I took my first trad whip the year before, oops). Took close a year and a half off climbing that just ended recently now that I live near a rock gym and crags again.

Admittedly, my endurance list is less agressive than some of you. My bucket list of events has things I "think" I'll enjoy rather than a random # of things like 50 marathons/50 states. I started to do something like that but I realized it wasn't as enjoyable of a process as I might have hoped.

Marathon - check
Pikes Peak Marathon - check
Ironman race - check
Kona (don't care if by qualifying or lottery) - This is the goal I've had the longest.
Boston Marathon by qualifying
Rim to Rim to Rim in Grand Canyon (looooove the GC)
Norseman (I wish I'd never seen the video cuz that's what hooked me)
Cycle through as many TDF climbs as possible in two weeks
Go to Everest base camp (not going up)
24-hour bike race
100-mile running race
Canadian Death Race
Hardest one - be able to do these things when I'm 60 and 70 and...

I just want to have a positive influence on others and make friends wherever I go.. Oh screw that crap, I want to kick ass and get back to Kona and make enough money that I can do it on a carbon fiber/ sram Red set-up with new Zipp 404s!

- Be able to stay 4 weeks before/after in Kona, Maui, etc.
- Qualify and run NYC Marathon (only need a 1:30 HM for guaranteed entry)
- Lake Placid IM
- Break all my PRs set when M3539 (I didnt think possible until I saw friends do this at 2010 Augusta in M4044)
- Make enough $$ to get a regular 90 min massage 1 x week
- Own a cabin in the N GA mountains where I keep my 3 extra bikes and a few in other sizes for friends
- Win the lottery, then work in a bike shop, w Espresso machine, 2 hours/ day with no sales quotas.
- Serve as USA Swimming Official at a National Meet
- Watch my kids be the best they can (and want) to be in swimming or other chosen sports
- Never get hit by a car
- Be the first to get a 5i50 tattoo

Great topic. Mine would include riding across the US and running the Grand Canyon rim to rim. If I ever did another stand-alone marathon it would have to be someplace unique (i.e. Reykjavik as someone else had mentioned). I've checked off running a marathon (21x), qualifying for Boston (twice) and doing an IM (6x). Unfinished business includes riding from my house to the tip of the Cape in Provincetown in one day (roughly 130 miles) - I tried it a few years ago and had a bad crash about halfway through, damaging the bike and myself in the process and having to call it a day. On the calendar for next year.

Also hope to compete in tris for 50 consecutive years. I've got 22 years to go.

For the most part I have pretty much accomplished everything I want to. Just would like to continue to enjoy racing and pick up a few more wins.

Maybe run under a 5:00 mile when I am forty. This would not be anything remarkable, but would just be confirmation that I am still healthy and enjoying this.

Run a 10K with my kids. No kids (not even married), but would like to have kids someday and still be healthy and fit enough to do a race when I do.

Lessee...

- Pike's Peak Marathon
- Norseman
- Mt. Lemmon Marathon
- The Vasa
- Race Across the Sky

Should mention this isn't a bucket list. They're just events I'd like to do. If so, great. If not, I'll do other, cooler stuff. :)

And...I should be able to knock off 3 of the 5 in the next year...

A triathlon in each of the 50 states + DC and then a tri on each continent.

Cycleguy: Your list took me 18 years. You will not be disappointed in any one of them. The hardest in retrospect, is picking the single race that was the best. Thanks, Doug

Cycleguy:

Okay, the first check off came at age 32 and took me a little under 20 years. Your time table is a bit more aggressive. Stay after it no matter what the timeline is for you. After all, it is a bucket list. Regards, Doug
