I love fall running right now with the leaves changing because I can run with my black lab on the nature trails. But I hate the first two weeks of November because that's when deer hunting season starts. We then have to stay home because I'm afraid that some of these idiots might be too drunk to distinguish us from a deer.

It is awesome! Running has gone from my least favourite of the three sports to my favourite!!!! It's always a nice temperature - still not too cold evening in the evening. Although England is currently having the warmest October since records began... oh well - going to Australia soon :)

Man this cycle of Summer - Fall - Summer - Spring - Summer is going to be hard ;)

It must be beautiful this time of year up in Maine.

I do agree, fall running is definitely the best!

Low humidity,comfortable temperature,leaves changing color.

I live just outside NYC and I usually do most of my running in Central Park.

Its such a pleasure running in the park in October.

I'd post them if I had them, but I don't. Sorry

It's just... so perfect. Cold and clear sunrises, and those gorgeous leaves silhouetted against gray mornings. And bright, chilly afternoons, I love it.

In the past week I've run 60 miles with one day off and one double, which is more than I probably should have, but it's been irresistible. I keep wondering 'how many steps equals a stress fracture' (I've had two that were running induced, one from a bike crash) and I wish I could find that number and do n-1 steps. I just want to run and run and run. Tomorrow is a no-run day (8 Monday, 8 Tuesday, 10 today that I hadn't planned on but it was too nice to resist) and it's killing me. My legs are stinging, but I am simply aching to go for a morning run.

Precious fall.

This hat - Made in Tigerchick's home State says it all... :-) Fall is the best!

Actually, the only problem with Fall is that winter will soon follow :-(

But then, I'll get to wear my new hat! :-)

I was REALLY looking forward to running this fall....the cooler temps, the color of the leaves turning, just me, the road, and the sights and smells of Autumn....a chance to reconnect to my first love (running) and restore my spirit in preparation for the long bleak winter ahead...
But.......my Plantar Fasciitis kicked in again....my morning runs would cripple me by mid-afternoon.....I CAN'T RUN!!!!!!
So....I'm forced to give it up for a while...
My idea is to work on my swim, bike (stationary), and try to establish some strength and flexiblity. In December, I'll try it again...slowly, on the treadmill, one mile at a time...
So....no marriage proposal (my wife wouldn't understand), but maybe I could run vicariously, through you...(It would actually be much better than marriage..a common interest, and none of the bothersome and potentially disappointing emotional and physical entrapments)...
Anyway...enjoy!!! Autumnal running is one of the finer ways to express one's love of the gift of motion...

I am so envious of the mileage you put in! Running is just the perfect sport. It's cheap, you can do it anywhere, you can take in the beautiful fall / winter scenery, hardly ever get cold, great total body workout. If it weren't for my dang knee I would be out there as much as possible. An hour at a time isn't too bad, but I'm jealous of your 20 milers!

You should take some pics on your next run! Maybe we should start a picture thread for scenery we've taken in while running or biking. I'm sure everyone has some great images to share.

:)

Tigerchick,

I like fall running too.

On a side note: I was looking at your sig, and the second line says that "Lion has to outrun the fastest gazelle or it will starve." But in reality, doesn't the Lion just have to outrun the slowest Gazelle???

Me too. I'm usually kind of banged up from a summer of racing and should take more time off from running. It's really hard not to run in the fall. For me, some of it is the memory of cross-country in high school and college.

ya know, I love running in all seasons, but fall is quite fine I must agree..

<rant on>
I take issue with your signature.. lions hunt at night, not in the morning; they hunt by ambush, not by running their prey down. That little homily from some moronic business-empowerment-lipservice-instead-of-real-thinking company annoys the pee out of me every time I see it. In the morning, the gazelles may safely graze around the lions, who are probably lounging happily near the carcass of last night's dinner. The time to worry is when the sun goes down, and running doesn't help..
<rant off>

"It is a good feeling for old men who have begun to fear failure, any sort of failure, to set a schedule for exercise and stick to it. If an aging man can run a distance of three miles, for instance, he knows that whatever his other failures may be, he is not completely wasted away." Romain Gary, SI interview

Lame joke:

Two guys camping on safari in an African reserve are sleeping soundly in their tent when they are woken by an ear shattering roar terrifyingly close to their tent. They nervously put their heads through the flap and see the unmistakable shape of a lion prowling at the perimatere of their camp. It roars again.

Both men leap back into the tent one starts shaking uncontrolably: terrified he looks across at hic companion to see him calmly lacing up his trainers.

"You Idiot!" he hisses "Do you think they're going to make you run faster than a lion?!"

"No" says his mate cheerfully - "But they'll sure make me run faster than you."

I'll be here all week.

Yeah, probably.

I'm not running today (swim double! and a massage) - tomorrow he's giving me a new training schedule, month one of marathon training for Hyannis. So I'll be back 'on a leash' then.

He told me outright the other day "you are a very difficult person to coach." I didn't disagree.

Yeh, I second the photos of the area. I have spent 7-10 days in Bar Harbor every September for many years but have never been there at any other point in the year. It would be great to see how it progresses into winter. Kinda think it may be different than it is here in Houston.

Playing by the rules is only one aspect of sportsmanship. The rules do not always encompass all the values by which we want to conduct ourselves. There is no explicit rule about winning and losing with grace. There are no rules about having integrity. There are no rules about treating each other with respect. Yet all of these things are paramount to winning itself and all of them can actually enable a person to gain from sport all it has to offer.
