I think they should have no problem finding reputable sponsors. At least I hope so.

Meh it's a sponsorship. Heaps of athletes plug shitty products, this is just another example.

And I thought you were posting about their left/right leg power.
All those bracelet/necklace companies are frightfully good at getting athletes to shill for them. Embarrassing, but for the right price I'd probably do it, too, considering how innocuous they are.

I like how when I got to powerbalance.com it doesn't even tell me what the hell they are. It just lets me click to buy them.
Is this supposed to keep my aura in balance or something?

"The trouble started for the company back in January, when disappointed consumers first filed a federal lawsuit claiming the bracelets packed no more power than a rubber band."
Wow, this can only happen in a society where people are either incredibly stupid or incredibly greedy.....or both.
And where they get by fine by doing so.
Another case where lawyers are ruining our economy by killing businesses.
Seriously, how did they get that settlement?
Even though I do think the company was selling hot air, those who filed the suit and get to collect that money should be ashamed of themselves.
Money knows no shame, I guess.

Maybe someone can sue him for this product like they did for the power balance.

I have a bigger problem with the company who is selling the snake oil than the people who sued. A company that preys on people's stupidity deserves to be 'killed'.
I think the Raelerts shouldn't be backing this type of BS. It's in the same class as horoscopes and seances.

Why do you hate a free market and people having a good education to make educated desicions, so that you don't require lawyers to tell you what is BS and what is legit?
Lawyer?
That product (albeit snake oil and totally ridiculous if you ever had a science class in school) did not harm anybody. I did think the product was bogus and laughed really hard at those who payed $30.- for it. Stupid them.
Again, I think this lawsuit against a stupid product is stupid. And people who think this makes sense, well.....
I really don't like the word, but am at loss for a better one.
But maybe you just simply have an axe to grind against foreing athletes.
I'd prefer to believe that.
Food for thought (in the unlikely case you cared):
A large proportion of professional triathletes get sponsored by manufacturers of products that are legally questionable either under product safety aspects (recalled cycling equipment) or under WADA and USADA doping rules (nutritional supplements).

You assume I hate free markets, based on my response?
No, I believe that having a 'free' market does not mean companies have carte blanche to make any sort of claim they want. Can I release a product that I claim can cure cancer even though I know it does not?
Furthermore, what the company did was apparently illegal. I have a problem with that, you apparently don't.
Since you bring up education, I could start correcting your spelling mistakes, but I'll give you a pass on that because it looks like English is not your first language. (It's not really my native language either, BTW).

No - another incorrect assumption.

Yes, those people were stupid. But your argument is that in a free market any and all claims should be allowed, irrespective of the harm or lack of it. You did not qualify your 'free market' argument for this.
windschatten wrote:

I'd prefer to believe that.
Are you presuming I am from the US? Another assumption - I see a pattern here: a bunch of assumptions based on lack of knowledge. I bet you would prefer to believe that I am xenophobic because that irrationality is easier for you to handle than rational argument, which does not appear to be your strong point.

Everyone should have their own moral compass and it is up to each athlete to determine what they attach their name to. I personally believe people should not be endorsing obviously quack products, or legally dubious products of any sort.

But for those who know about those things and don't believe in fairies it just makes them sounds like idiots or at best whores of product marketing.

I used to be annoyed at them embracing a bogus product, but I don't think they're sponsored by them anymore. I don't see PB among the sponsors on their website, and on recent race pictures, I don't see any PB bracelets...?
Edit: Then again, on the pictures from Challenge Walchsee, Andreas is wearing one.

Markets are more efficient if there is an expectation of product quality by the consumer. Every major economic calamity in our country has been caused by either over or under regulation; neither side (no regulation or over regulation) is right.
