PSA: MASSIVE one day sale at Jos. A. Bank Quote | Reply

Just bought 4 suits for the price of 1, 6 silk ties & 6 iron-free tailored dress shirts, all 3 for 1. Saved over $4k on a new wardrobe. Style and quality is comparable to Brooks Brothers, if you're not familiar.

Stores close at 7pm, IIRC.

3 suits, 6 shirts and 6 ties from Jos A. Bank would have totalled $4K? Are you in Beverly Hills? The Jos A. Bank around here has $500 suits where you can buy 1 and get 3 free, because, well they really are only the quality of $125 suits. To quote Mr T. "Pitty the fool who pays full price at Jos A. Bank"!!

Brilliant post. The best they ever are is buy one get 2. But typical post for around here.

Not that I'd ever have paid that much for suits, but I've been in need of new threads for a long while, and it's a hard deal to beat at those prices.

Retail estimate of savings was 4k. Actual for what I'd have paid on any given day is far less, obviously.

Plus four suits, and a few other items.

I was agreeing with you. They are ok for an everyday suit. I used to work in the garment industry. The only difference in a $200 suit and a $500 suit was the label we would sew in.

I bought my last 2 suits at the Macy 1-day sale for $125 and $88 each. They were originally $400 to $600, but with sale discounts, Macy card discounts, other 20% coupons... Once I got the $600 suit down to $88, I asked "now that's wiht free alterations, right?"

I have connections. They assure me this is the first and last sale of its kind.

I've bought plenty of Jos. A Bank suits with the intent of them being "everyday suits", but they are not qualiy suits and that is why they always have a sale - anyone who pays full price for anything at JAB is a fool. Plus the stuff at JAB never fits right.

Husband says he's holding out for their 'buy a shirt, get the rest of the store free' sale.

Their wrinkle-free dress shirts actually used to be quite good. But then they change suppliers a few years back looking for cheaper production and their quality control went into the shitter.

I was examining the shirts last night, comparing them to the collection of Brooks Bro's shirts I've amassed over the years. Down to the stitch, they seem to my eye identical in every way. I'm sure the suits are far from BB quality, but I'm not looking to pay BB prices for suits, either.

The new ones look fine, but have an unfortunate to shred at the collar fold and along the edge where the buttons are far, far sooner than they should.

The early 2000s JSA wrinkle-free dress shirts were surprisingly bomb-proof that would hold up well through a zillion washes.

I've been meaning to create a thread basically asking when Jos. A. Bank sales are worth it, cause they are ALWAYS running a sale. I have no clue how much a suit from there should actually cost as a decent price.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is what I hate about buying suits. Or almost all clothes for that matter, because all stores do this.

buy one get one free, 50% - 70% off, buy a bunch of suits get ties free....etc

Just mark the thing up 20%-30% up from what you paid for it and call it good. Really thought about telling them what price I am willing to pay and see if they will accept my offer.

That article is fascinating, and deals directly with your question.
