could be a great race, could be a shitfight.
I wonder if they will allow discs across the bridge? or will it be a last minute call type thing?

Based on the winds they've let people have discs on in Taupo it should be good. IIRC the rules say "Have a spare wheel with you in case the RD rules it disc illegal"

Yer I just saw that. That is pricey! That's like $100 more than both Challange Wanaka & Port of Tauranga 1/2's. In saying that seeing as it's so close to those 2 events (day after CW!) it could be an easier shot to pick off a Vegas slot as I suspect lots of the fast guys will have already paid to enter those 2 races and won't want to write off that cost to sink another $350.
Wonder how many Vegas slots there will be...

$350 is hard to swallow and definitely makes Rotorua look like a great option. It also makes the ITU Worlds look ridiculous at $495!
The Vegas 70.3 slots are attractive though.
The bike course will be interesting, rolling hills mainly? Good surface?

I suspect it's along the Northern bus way which is all concrete / slick ash felt. The climb up to get off the bus way at Sunshine will be a bit of work, it's a fair way up that hill...

I guess this means Phuket has got the boot as the 70.3 "Asia Pacific Championships", although I really don't know what that means as it was no different from a regular 70.3.
$350 is expensive.

More pro points and more AG slots.

Oh I see. I guess I never looked at the pro points, but they never applied any additional AG slots to the Phuket 70.3 "Asia Championships", where it has always been the minimum 25 AG slots which was the same or less than all the other 70.3s in the region.

Ha Ha! Yeh, the ITU worlds is $495 plus you have to pay NZ$300 for a uniform...and that's what the sprint tri costs too. Going to be the most expensive hour of my life...in retrospect I could think of many better things I could get for $800/hr ;-)

Is the bike course as convoluted as it appears? 1 lap north, 2 laps south - little detours all over the place... maybe it's just me.

Yep the ITU Worlds are later this year in Auckland too. I decided to pass as it would have cost me about $650 for the entry fee + compulsory uniform (same price for Olympic and Sprint!), and then I needed to add flights, hotels and other travel costs and travelling to NZ aint cheap either. No thanks.

Yes, the little detours all over the place are at the top of the north lap and are prob there to pad out the course to the full 90km and also to get you back to an on ramp to the busway.

you don't think ITU worlds are a much bigger deal than a half ironman?
I think ITU worlds are a bigger deal than any ironman aside from Kona to be honest. How much does ironman cost to enter these days? It was close to $600 back in 2007 (when I last did it) if I recall correctly.
Logistics involved with organising itu worlds prob much bigger than ironman also...especially given where the race is taking place.
the bike course appears to be on north western motorway so should be fast....

It would seem to me that the WTC is doing all they can to keep the Asians out of the Asia Pacific Championships in both Ironman and 70.3..I guess Phuket wasn't making them enough money...
