It's been so warm there has been a real problem with the algae snakes this year. Speaking of snakes, I was in Madison yesterday. Monona looks like you could walk across the weeds. Wetsuits are going to be the least of our worries this year. You are gonna have to beat all those snakes off with a bat.

For those of you wondering about the E. coli reading, I took a water quality class with Dr. Kinzelman and their protocol has temps checked regularly along the beach, at varying depths. So, that reported temp
may
be at 6 inches of water at 12 noon. Or maybe it's at a meter. Either way, it's not deep and it's at the midpoint of the day, IIRC
As for the Chicago temps, that blows my mind.

I noticed you have not been back to IMWI since the algae snakes reached record lengths a couple years ago.
I sure hope none of them end up in the Bay next weekend for Door County. Man, can you imagine being in the Elite Wave, having to go first, and scaring up the snakes? That would suck. Snakes, man. Nasty buggers.

First time I beat snakes off with a bat I had to at least buy them a drink first

First, no way. Water at Racine is not, and won't be, 80. Lucky if it reaches 60.
Second, if it does reach 80 (which it won't), then yay! Swimming in a wetsuit sucks. To this day I cannot understand why people dread swimming wetsuit free.
Swimming (like sex) just feels better without the rubber.

I checked out your MSU link a few minutes ago and it is showing cloud cover with temps between 32-45. Can that possibly be correct?

If not, can someone explain how to read that map?

Temps early in the AM (when refs would measure) are well under 76 F (4 degrees under according to NOAA). Wind is picking up and I'd think we'd get some lake turnover in the next day or so. I think you're pretty safe.

Have a great Racine.

Current water temp at Zoo beach is about 73, winds out of the south-southeast. A week ago, the water temp was in the low 60s, not sure wind direction, but it must have been from the west.
Sunday AM, the winds might be south-southwest = expect the water to be colder.
