Blister on heel 3 days before race Quote | Reply

I developed a blister that ruptured while refereeing a soccer game tonight. It's three days before my race, a sprint. I am wondering what you would do in my shoes? I am thinking keep it dry from now till the race, wear sandals no socks. Before the race, salve it up, bandage it up, possibly with moleskin, and take Advil for the pain, if there is any. Any other ideas?

Kb - you have the right idea. You might keep the foot wear that caused it out of the line up for a while and think carefully what you plan to have on your feet for both the bike and the run portions of the race. And, although many poopoo socks while racing, you might slip on a pair in T1 to keep the pain down and have the best chance of doing well. Good luck!

The night before your race:

1) Clean the area with an alcohol swab. Yes, this will sting. This will prep the skin for step 3.

2) Put a very small amount of antibiotic cream directly over the raw spot. Don't get it on the surrounding skin or it will inhibit adhesion.

3) Put a square of this directly on the skin. Chamfer the corners to reduce the chance of peeling. Rub it in place from the center to the edges.

Leukotape is stretchy, breathable, and has a very aggressive adhesive. It should stay in place for a couple of days if you follow the procedure above.

Good luck.

Band-Aid + duct tape. Race your butt off.

I have never found duck tape to work. If after a couple days of air drying (several epsom salt soaks a day; in between...just like you said, air dry, no socks/shoes), it's crusty enough... slap on a couple of coats of NewSkin, then several coats of superglue. Cover that with either bodyglide or aquaphor or some such. Then, I'd probably wear socks for the race.

Nexcare absolute waterproof tape..

I have the same exact issue this is what I do.

Small adhesive Dressing aka Band-aid
Leukotape
Nexcare absolute waterproof tape round edges

Plan B:
Large bandaid stuck to the cross bar in transition in case all failed.
I actually do 2 just incase I need to redo after bike

If all else fails I have had bloody socks before

I would imagine it would be difficult to get them to stay in one place for a long period of time. They love the water but I doubt they would be too thrilled with the bike and run.

Dude..

clean it up and then use some put a nice coat of crazy glue on there. it acts like a 2nd skin.

I've had horrific blisters that bled through my shoe...covered them up and was good to go.

just dont use your fingers to spread the glue.

Superglue over the blister. Boom, done. you won't even know it's there.

Hey, thank you very much. This is exactly what I did, and I had no trouble. I took three Advil at breakfast, and I did not feel any pain the whole time. I have a friend in the medical supply industry, and got the Leukotape from him. It stayed on for the whole race, and that included rain for all of the bike and run. My biking shoes and running shoes were SOAKED the whole time, but this tape stayed firmly in place.

Does the glue go directly on the raw skin under the blistered dead skin after that is removed?

Two layers newskin, followed by super glue. Always did the trick for me.

i had the same issue a month ago.

elastoplast make a product specifically for blisters.
the SOS blister.

it works amazing. it is water proof. sticks for several days. and not only covers the blister but infuses it with some kind of solution that instantly kills pain.

best product i have ever used, for anything.
