Anyone know if Augusta 70.3 has typically been wetsuit legal?

The past two years I know for sure it has.

Yes. Enjoy the free swim. Point down river and float to a PR!

How hilly is the bike course?

Rolling. What comes up must come down. Noting worth worrying about, just spin up and get aero on the downside.

There are video (9 I think) on youtube going over the entire course with a good running commentary. The quality of the roads, direction of the winds techincal areas, aid stations, as well as historic background stuff is discussed.

Huge help, there is (or was at least) a 180 degree turn at the bottom of a hill, something nice for which to be prepared.

For those of you who have done the Augusta 70.3 in the past, do many people wear sleeveless wetsuits? Trying to determine if I need to buy a full wetsuit...Thoughts?

I go with a sleeveless, water is cool but the air is always warm in the morning, dont want to overheat when waiting on your wave.

Agreed, sleeveless is fine.

Water may be a bit chilly, but nothing you can't tolerate.

Sleeveless. Because the swim is downriver with a substantial current it will take 5-7 minutes off of your normal time (so you will be in the water less time). And you definitely don't want to overheat since you'll be nice and warm by the end of the run anyway. Hydrate well in the days leading up to the race and don't forget to balance fluids with plenty of electrolytes. Good luck.

Do you recommend this race?
Looks pretty nice. I am doing the Syracuse 70.3 in June and IMLake Placid (3rd time) in July.
Looking for an autumn race that isn’t too late or too exposed to nasty weather.
Thanks.

I liked this race as a racer. It is not spectator friendly except for the run if that matters to you. The host hotel fills up fast and it is the only decent place to stay within walking distance. We found a nice bed and breakfast over by Augusta National that was great. I like this race and would do it again. The swim is super-fast since it is down-river with a strong current. The bike is fast with a few rollers thrown in. Assuming normal weather the run will be brutal because of the heat / humidity combo so just know that going in. I should have taken in more electrolytes the day before and on the bike. Augusta is not the most beautiful place in the world but it is a race that I would recommend. I like it better than Austin or New Orleans. For what it's worth, I know some people have had good things to say about the Rev 3 race in Anderson, SC which is right around that same time but I don't know anything about it personally. There are probably some threads on here you could search for reviews. Hope it goes well. Best,
-Doug

I had a friend do it two years ago and wore a full wetsuit, however, his friend jumped in in just tri-bottoms and was fine in the same race. I'm lookin forward to doing that one this year.
