I was about to build up a cheap old aluminum frame I had lying around when I realized a few incompatibility issues with the components I have set aside.

That said, I'm frustrated after trying to "force" it and am looking for a cheap replacement. Anyone know of a good place to get a cheap alu cross frame?

I know nashbar has got one pretty cheap on their site. Anyone seen others?

thanks Chip. Unfortunately I've got a bunch of parts already that are just asking to be used and not sit in my basement anymore.

Go to your LBS - JB (junk and bargains) has a bunch on stupid sale...I mean, stupid cheap. Unless you have a contact that can get you one....$200 and less cheap for brand new Redlines and the like.

I'll vouch for the Motobecane Phantom available from Bikesdirect. My parents got a couple last year for touring/commuting. No issues at all. I'm impressed with the component spec. With some effort you could probably almost break even on a frame by selling the parts off a complete bike.

Here you go.

Raced this my first year, now using it as my pit bike/commuter.

When you put your components on it, it will go where you point it and get the job done. Is it light, no, but for 99 bucks you can't beat the price.

Is JB something your shop offers, or is it a different site/store? Can you post a link to their site? I can't seem to find anything online.

J&B will sell to most any shop with a store front - easy terms or CC up front. As a consumer you can not purchase from them. If you have a good relationship with your LBS they should hook you up with minimal margin.
