Dunno about *during* training, but certainly after.

As the founder of the 3 for a PB protocol, I heartily endorse a few adult beverages now and then.
I pretty much have 1 drink daily, sometimes 2.
But very rarely more than 3.
(Mon nite was more like 12, but I was in NYC for meetings, didn't hafta drive, 2 playoff games on tv at the bar at the same time....)

I've just finished my run, and have rewarded myself with an Old Tom (voted world's best ale in 2009) - very complex, yum, yum. This works for me: go train, have a reward. Horses for courses boyo, if missing-out on beer adds to your angst, then don't - there's enough to worry about before your first IM - but don't let it impact your training.

I recently shuffled my way through the Boston Marathon. I walked most of the hills, but at the base of Heart Break Hill a bunch of HHH's were giving out dixie cups of beer. I had two and actually ran up the stupid hill (only to find several people lying on the ground in the middle of the road at the top of the hill). The next day I went over to the Samuel Adams Brewery and got a really great free glass mug engraved with 2012 Boston Marathon on it. I forgot what the question was, but beer is the answer. Tim

Nothing wrong with beer. I give you science:

I also give you broscience: I hang out with roadies, and being one of the few people not tipsy after a single pint makes me feel like Grizzly Adams. Plus, the common podium prize in MI for CX rides and races held in celebrated beer cities (Grand Rapids, Frankenmuth) is usually a hefty amount of the good stuff. Count one or two into your daily calories and enjoy your relaxation and health benefits.

Last week, I had a beer at work about an hour before I left. On my commute home, I set a new PR for 1m power. I'm not sure if I am willing to see if that scales to FTP ;)

This is spot on, if you like beer, drink it. Have less cake, white bread, cookies, etc. to make up for it. If you control for the impacts on weight beer isn't going to slow you down. You're not going to be slower due to a few beers, you're going to be slower because you didn't do enough strength training or you skipped speed work on the track. I'm drinking more now than I have in the last few years based on work related social commitments and I'm faster than ever because I've been doing tons of mile repeats and other speed work. I think the correlation is very low.

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
Yes, Game Changer
Minor move forward
Won't budge the needle
