This is very sad news. Alexander had a special place in Norwegian hearts, not just because he was the best breast stroker in the world, but mostly how he kept on swimming after the terror attack in Norway in July 2011.

In this video you can hear the Norwegian announcers start crying when Alexander won the world championship.

yeah- just saw this in the local news. Hard to believe that the kind of physiology that's capable of that level of performance, somehow can't keep the heart beating.

my sympathies to his family, friends, fans and countrymen.

Very sad. For the last few weeks I got to see him jump in the pool after my morning masters workouts and actually swam in the lane next to him during evening sessions. When they arrived at the pool, I was always looking the Norwegian team over to find the world champ! I have not been around many breast strokers in my limited swimming experience, so it was really special to get a close up look at one of the greatest in the world and begin to appreciate his amazing talents.

I wonder if the rest of the team will continue their altitude training camp? Seems like it would be very difficult to stay in this environment so far from home.
