Ok my boy can walk but not without holding onto something, we do all day care at home so he isn't with alot of kids everyday. How can I get him to do it, I know he can, any Ideas? He is getting to heavy to carry.

You can't. We went through the same thing with our little guy. He would walk along the walls for hours. Then one day, pop, he just started going.
You can buy him a little "zoomer" as we call it. But I think our guy used it as a crutch.

It is all about the confidence.

Put him on the wall, then stand a few feet away, and put out your hands and tell him to come to you.

Start with your hand close to his and as he moves forward move your hand back, he should keep coming to you.

Do this multiple times and he should start taking a few steps at a time.

You can also do one handed walking with him, start with two hands then release one.

I tried this he thinks its ok to take 2 steps but after that he drops and crawls, I just gotta be more patient. I thought he would be riding a scoot bike by now. Kid will run while pushing his cart. Future star

Have you tried a shock collar?

Seriously, relax. He'll learn to walk. Before you know it he'll be wiping YOUR ass.

One day you won't be able to pick him up and you will be missing these times.

Since he is cared for at home, make sure he goes to the park/playground so he can see other kids walking/running.

While the shock collar Duffy suggested would be more entertaining (I'm kidding), this idea makes a lot of sense. If he's not exposed to normal kids running and playing, he may only keep doing what he's been doing.

Now, you could use the shock collar; but in a more humane way. You put it on, and every time he walks more than 3 steps you get shocked and he gets to watch daddy play funny. After he's learned how it works, put the control 5 steps away; when he walks to it and shocks you, put it six steps away. After a few days he'll learn how to walk, and you'll learn not to bark or pee on the carpet.

My three boys didn't walk until 17 months.

Encourge with positive reinforcement. Walking, like potty training or anything else will occur when he is ready.

Enjoy the journey.

cherish this time....seriously....he will start walking soon and when he does, he will do it with the speed of Usain Bolt.

When my daughter hit this stage my wife and I would just work with her standing by herself. We would sit on the floor, help her to her feet and let her try and balance. Then we started sitting across from each other, encouraging her to walk between us. We started out about 1 step away so taking a single step was easier than dropping to her knees to crawl. From there it was a big game. Seems like once she hit three steps, she could go all day.

sometimes you just have to eat the cake

As everyone else is saying, relax and enjoy. My first walked at something like 9 months and it was a huge pain since he was risk seeking, unsteady and fell and hurt himself constantly. My other three all walked much later, one at around 15 months and it was so much better, way fewer falls, etc. Part of their late walking may have been that we kept knocking them down when they tried to walk (I kid, sort of).

Smart little fella. He knows that once he demonstrates his ability to walk, next you'll be expecting him to run 26.2 miles off the bike.

My daughter is 17 months old and has been walking for about a month. I found the biggest factor was space - a big open room without furniture and obstacles did wonders for her confidence.

Scream at him! Tell him that he is an embarrassment to himself and your family.
Or, just chillax and he'll probably do it by himself this weekend.

Like others have said, it will come. Our daughter didn't crawl until she was 11 months, just sat there on her belly, but then all of a sudden about 4 weeks later I turned around and she was walking so it will happen when it happens. Also as other have said, now I can't wait until she sits down, which doesn't happen often, so enjoy it.
