a tnt racer once asked me for a donation for cancer research...i politely declined because i know that they research cancers on mice and cats and i am not for animal cruelty.

Not trying to be a dick here, but where should cancer research be conducted? Should we just say, "got cancer? sucks for you," and forget researching?

Sorry. Impulse reply that's way off topic. Please disregard.

Very cool. The weather looks like it will be great, and the 30th, so just enjoy the ride. :o)

Dont pass them on Nasty only to blowup and get re passed at mile 7 of the run because you are walking.
For most of us the race starts at mile 45 of the bike. The reason for that is if you push too hard on the bike before this point your day will turn into a Long Walk or shuffle on the run.

The bike throws a lot of curve balls at you besides the hills. You can have some wind, plenty of false flats, and it can get hot in the rollers between Jalon and the bottom of Nasty Grade. There are soooo many places for mistake on bike because of the hills, but the biggest mistake is people Hammering on the backside of the Lake. There is a net downhill and usually a bit of a tailwind, and people override there ability without realizing it because it feels easy over there. Bad bad idea unless you are strong in real life (As opposed to Slowtwitch Strong), or do not mind a 2hour tour of the run course.

Oh yeah coming back into the park mile 50 to 54 headwind and rollers. So save something for that also.

Good info - thanks! I'm sure I will have my butt handed to me with this course, but I'm excited for the challenge. The recent weight loss for me has helped greatly on the hills, so those don't scare me anymore. The rollers, wind, and heat can really degrade one's mind out there though... that's what worries me.

Another piece to remember on Nasty. When you think you are at the top, you make a right turn and get a nice kicker to add insult to your tired injured legs if you went up the main climb too fast.

Good luck and see you down there!

Chris
Are you racing this year?

You are right on with this statement. People for some reason forget that this sport is Triathlon, not bike racing and Wildflower will put a beating on anyone who forgets that a 1/2 marathon follows the bike.

No, wish I was... or rather, wish I was in shape to race it :) Maybe next year, but I am also planning on Leadman about a month before

Hope your service is not through AT&T, reception SUCKS for anyone but Verizon in almost the entire park.

AT&T seems OK down by the boat launch...

I actually had better coverage with T-Mobile (in 2010) than with Verizon (2011). <shrug> Everyone fades in and out. Depends on how the signal bounces...
