Poewrtap pieces question (With pics) Quote | Reply

Ok, I got a used powertap SL+ recently, and when it arrived I took the cassette from my old wheel and put it on. I was able to ride, zero and get readings from the hub on the LYC.

Friday, I was taking the cassette off to put the cover on for duathlon nationals, and the entire hub body for the cassette slid off with the cassette. There is also one piece that appears to simply be loose, not kept on by anything except the skewer. During the two miles before I flatted, I was also unable to get any readings from the hub.

Here's the pics:

Without the end piece

The piece that comes out:

Any ideas? Am I missing a piece? What worries me is that the entire hub body slid off with the cassette, and ever since that happened I haven't been able to get readings from the LYC.

the free hub body is designed to slide on and off, the o-ring holds it in place. The cap that came out slides back into the axel.

You can download the manual here, Page 35

That end cap shouldn't affect PT readings. It's designed to come off and be put back on fairly easy. Just click it into place hard. Doing so actually makes installing a disc cover very easy, as you don't have to mess with the cassette at all.

Did the batteries just randomly die at the same time?

I second this, they don't give much warning before they go.

That could very well be. I was just surprised that the whole freehub body slid off with the cassette. The LYC did need to have the batteries replaced (Just got the setup this last week), so I suppose the ptap could need a new battery as well.

Yeah the first time I changed my cassette on my PT I was rather surprised and worried I broke something but I made a phone call and they told me it was normal.

I think that cat stole the little Ant+ transmitter that is held by the freehub. Looks awfully suspicious..
