Re: April Fish Thread [HalfSpeed] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

Thanks everyone for the moral support for my upcoming test match this weekend..Was kind of depressed this week as I had a really good last couple days ending on sat, then felt like i was getting sick on sunday. Been fighting it off, but have had to work the camp all week, and last night was the 1st good nite of sleep all week. Went to the pool today to get in one last swim, and it was ok.. I feel crampy, which is always an indication of fighting off something, but if I can get the next two nights to cooperate, I should be good to go..Gonna buy me a sweet new suit, busting out the razors now, and start swimming all my races in my head over and over.

500 easy build swim- 6;37
400IM kick- steady build- 7;16
broken 200IM, 50's@ 1;00, steady hard- 34/38/39+/31

100 IM medium hard- 1;14
200 easy pull- 2;27
100 dolphin kick- 1;49

(that last little set is harder than it appears, if you actually sprint the sprint bits)

Yeah, they're short and hard! (No quoting Michael Scott's favorite saying)

a little late starting today...
2x(200s + 100k) wu
2x50 easy stretch it out
100 free 1:03
100 breast 1:20
100 back 1:28
100 fly 1:35 (I stopped for 5s each wall - fly makes my back hurt)
10x25 sprints 5s rest after last person (which is about 10-12s for me)
100 cool

1450 sc yardages

1000 w/u (400 swim, 300 pull w/paddles, 4x50 build, 100 EZ)
18x100 on :10 (averaged somewhere around 1:10)
200 EZ

Have had a pretty bad week of training, and this actually went great. Next week, I'm going to try hit under 1:10 on every one, and then take a "rest" at 1:13-1:14, and then repeat until I get to the total reps.

Re: April Fish Thread [tigerchik] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

I was aiming for a 5000+ workout, but just didn't have it in me. Rarely do I feel so lethargic, but it hit me today. Plan was 1000 w/u then 500, 2x400, 3x300, 4x200, 5x100 and some cool down stuff. The w/u went fine then I started the 500 and my arms had no energy and could only muster a 6:05. Got through the two 400s and it took everything in me to start the 300s which were even slower. Switched to a 100 easy kick to give my arms a break and then see how a 200 would feel. I did a 50 free then switched to backstroke, rested then a 50 breast and 50 free and called it quits. My arms are two dead pieces of meat hanging off my shoulders. Gonna be a couch potato the rest of the day.

I've been a couch potato all day. I was exhausted most of this week and it has felt good to rest.

Since moving back to Sacramento I went back to swimming with the Davis Aquatic Masters. My wife, who is one of those triathletes who could improve their swimming, but resists doing so, even joined the club. This is a great organization. Last year it was USMS club of the year. The current coach, Stu Kahn, was recently named Pacific Masters Swimming Coach of the year. There are so many great workouts I really wanted to share. This morning was a sprint-themed workout. The workout at the fast end of the pool was -

10 minutes free warmup
500 (1 lap drill, 1 lap swim, 2 laps drill, 2 laps swim, 3 laps drill, 3 laps swim, 4 laps drill, 4 laps swim) drill was fingertip catch-up, swim was choice
5x100 (#1 all easy, #2 75 easy/25 fast, #3 50 easy/50 fast, #4 25 easy/75 fast, #5 100 fast)
4x (5x100) (#1 50 easy/50 fast, #2 50 fast/50 easy, #3 all fast/broken at 50, #4 all fast/broken at 25, #5 all easy)

3000 SCY + warmup

Re: April Fish Thread [kenpetruzzelli] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

looks like my kind of workout, thanks for sharing.

usms spring nationals report:

met SH during the meet today. very cool to connect and even cooler how he did today. he can report on that :)

best times for two events so far.
100 fly i squeeked out a 1:02.95 (28.92 / 34.03)
2nd in my age group. not technically the best race but the piano didn't fall!

50 Brst i managed a 31.00. frustated i didn't hit a 30.99 but hey... still happy.
2nd in my age group. the girl who got first was smokin' and almost went a a 29!

200 free relay split was 24.98.

a good day for me.

questions... we are using blocks that display a green light at the edge for the start/beep. has anyone used that before? better to look for the light vs. sound?

sore shoulder... fight thru a proper warm up with some sprinting? fight thru cool down or hot shower time? hmmm
