Hey. Just wrote my race report. Sorry it's long and sorry to link to my blog but I am too lazy to compress it and copy it here. http://140point6toglory.wordpress.com/...-1-nola-race-report/ Enjoy

Nice race report, great run. What's the name of the "amazing burger place" you guys went to for dinner, and the self-serve frozen yogurt place you went to after? Always looking for new places to eat in N'awlins.

Thanks for reading! The burger place is called The Company Burger, http://thecompanyburger.com/. It was good. A sort of good food fast burger place. Quick and not expensive and they yogurt place was called yogurt land, http://www.yogurt-land.com/, so many flavors and toppings. I could eat there every day.

Just saw the email from the RD about next year. $150 is tempting especially since I live so close. One question: does anyone have any info on where they will move the swim to? I am assuming the bike and the run will move (or at least be altered) also.

At the athlete's briefing and on the morning of the race, they said they'd try switching the swim course to somewhere near the Airport (still on Lake Pontchartran). Not sure this solves the problem...but they claim it's in a more protected area.

Not really sure this persuades me to sign up for next year's. The race is just too far away, and traveling for a triathlon seems like a giant hassle (this was the first time I'd flown for a tri).

Unlike other commenters, I didn't find the race all that bad. The roads were fine; they could've been better, but they definitely could've been a lot worse. And, sure, it was boring--but I've definitely seen worse. And, one final comment, I am one of the back-of-the-packers, and I never had an issue with aid stations running out of stuff. Every time I sauntered by (I'm really that slow...no running, just sauntering, lol), they had everything I needed. I've been in plenty of other races where they've run out of stuff, so this made me happy.

Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give the race a 6 -- in light of the swim issues (given they had similar problems before) and the annoying time trial run start (it went very slowly).

Thanks, great perspective. I did Austin 70.3 last year and (except for the swim) I prefer NOLA. Austin roads were as bad if not worse (actually had 100 feet of gravel), really nothing to look at, and the run in NOLA is better (better scenery, crowd support, etc). They guy handing out crawfish cracked me up. Was very tempted to stop and have some.

Gary, can you copy and paste the email here. I didn't get the email. Maybe it's because I didn't do the race but I was registered for it.

It was actually about 100 yards of gravel (no road). Don't sugarcoat it. :-)

From what I am told the plan is to use the harbor next to the lakefront airport. It would be on the other side ( east ) of the Seabrook bridge from where the race started.

Looks like the harbor is about 500 meters long and about 150 meters wide that would be usable swim area. I have not heard how a course might be layed out. The 5150 is supposed to move to this location so that will be the test of the new course.

Dear Ochsner IRONMAN 70.3 New Orleans Athlete,

Thank you for your patience and understanding last weekend. Having to restructure an event due to severe weather is not just disappointing to you, but to us as well. The decision, while difficult, was crucial to ensure athlete safety. Ochsner IRONMAN 70.3 New Orleans athletes will also be offered a $50 discount to one of the IRONMAN 70.3 events listed below. The discount is restricted to new registrations and will not be offered on existing entries.

Both offers will be available for two weeks, with registration beginning on Friday, April 27, at noon ET and ending on Friday, May 11, at noon ET. Entries will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and if an event closes during this process, it will no longer be available.

• IRONMAN 70.3 Florida - Haines City, FL - Sunday, May 20
• IRONMAN 70.3 Mooseman – Newfound Lake, NH - Sunday, June 3

I am guessing either a snake swim or two loop starting at Sikorsky Drive ending at Star casino with the parking lot being T1? (or maybe a reverse of that).

This was my third time doing this race. 2009,2010 and last weekend. I had complaints in 2009,but none this year. I thought I would miss the FQ finish and I did not. I thought doing a du would suck and it did not. I loved seeing the pros up close at start. I thought the bike would suck and the course was in better shape than it was in 2010. Is it the best race ever ? no. But it is certainly not the worst by a great deal. I am trying to attach some pics from the cheap phone I carry during Triathlons that I do not care If I loose or drop.

Yeah...we're looking at the $150 offer, too. It was mainly a solid training day (or in parts, just gutting it out on the run) for us, but we enjoyed ourselves.

I actually liked the run course, and I was one of the ones who was disappointed by no FQ finish initially. Nice to be able to break up the run into the out and back segments, see my honey several times as we crossed paths, and have all our gear handy when we were done rather than have to get back out to UNO to pick it up later.

I stopped and had one crawfish on the run...my day was pretty much shot by then, so I figured, why not? :)

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
