Anyone have some recommendations for a nice hotel for a family? I see the Boise Hotel and the Hampton have some decent pools with a small water park (Hampton). Which one is the host hotel or is there one?
Is the course easy for a family to get around? I had read about some shuttles and that should definitely help to get back from T1 but what about downtown and the finish.
Anyone have any recommendations on things to do while out there? I had read about the parks, aquarium(caught me off guard), and other stuff.
Appreciate the help as its an on going process.

There are a bunch of hotels within blocks of the T2 / Finish area. You've named a couple. I have also heard good things about the Hotel 43 (1 block) and the Modern (3).

and

The finish area is great for families and spectating. They get to watch T2, and two loops of the run course all within a couple of square blocks. T1 is tricky for spectating. The busses will get them back in time for T2, but without much time to spare. There isn't any shade up at Lucky Peak, and sometimes gets hot in the sun.
Things to do depends on what you like. The zoo is fun, if your kids are small. The foothills are great for hiking, running, biking. There is a pretty decent waterpark nearby. The Idaho Botanical gardens are worth a look, and sometimes they have summer concerts going on.

Shoot me a note if I can help with anything else.

I'm thinking about signing up for Boise to replace bailing on the NOLA 70.3 this past weekend.
My one and only concern is the water temperature. The website says 60-70 degrees but isn't the reality more like 50-something degrees? That's f'n cold.

It was in the 52 degree range last year, which was unusually cold. We've already had some hot days, it's looking much better so far. I think it usually creeps into the lower 60's by early June (in a normal year).

Thanks! Low-60's is doable. 50's isn't. I live in Houston so our water temps are already creeping towards 80.

I think this year will be MUCH warmer for water than it has been in the last few years. We actually haven't had a day below 32 degrees for a high in over 400 days. We just hit 90 degrees here yesterday and are on track for more high 80s days to come.
Unless something crazy happens I bet this will be one of the warmer swims they have had at this race if not the warmest because of our overly mild winter.
Good luck and I hope that you enjoy the race and Boise!

How would you rate the bike and run courses in terms of difficulty?

Run course - basically dead flat, 2 loops I think along the river and over some bridges. Great for spectators, easy for you.
Bike course - big fast fun downhill to start, then rolling hills with a few long hills, not steep but longish. Very exposed to sun/wind and I don't recall much in the way of aid stations. Difficulty - not too bad but could be nasty if it is hot.

GMAN...I think you'd like Boise. (seems like we have done a lot of the same races) I did it last year, and the water temp was 53 degrees. I managed, though, because I was ready for it, as opposed to IMSG in 2010 when the temp dropped over the days leading into the race (DNF'd the swim at IMSG). I wore a full suit and hood and I did go ahead and wear booties. The locals are thinking it won't be quite as cold as last year because of less snow...hope that would be the case for you.
The reservoir is nice to swim in...seems nicer and cooler than lots of our Texas lakes. Bike is nice...long downhill and a few climbs, as another poster said. Road surface no worse than what we have in Texas. I think there were 3 aid stations on the bike, which seems to be pretty standard for most of the 70.3 races. Loved the run course...2 loops around their river trail; great for spectators. Nice downtown finish.
Logistics...we stayed downtown near the finish line, and used rental car to take bike out to T1 on the Saturday. My sherpa and I took separate shuttles to race start on race day...he arrived about 45 min after me, which worked out fine. I didn't mind the noon start at all. (not a morning person) Then my sherpa took the shuttle back to meet me at T2 and cheer for the run at several locations.
I'm thinking you made the right call on NOLA....I went. May post some thoughts on the NOLA thread after I can ignore the post that was aggravating from some dude who must think he is sh** on wheels on the bike and can't stand anyone who might be a lesser athlete in his mind on the bike course. He's probably the one who passed me close on my right side when there was a full lane and a half clear of bike traffic to my left. :/
