Bike Covers for Roof Rack Systems Quote | Reply

I recently purchased a roof rack for my SUV now that the storage area has been allocated for a stroller and other baby paraphernalia. I'd like to purchase a cover for the front of my bike, but so far, all I can seem to find are made for road bikes (see pic below). Any recommendations on covers like these made for tri bikes? Also, any recommendations for the best one to get for road bikes? Thanks!

Skinz makes an aero bike bra as well.

If they do, I can't find it on their website. They have one for a road bike with clip ons, but not for aero bars.

Just wondering why you want one of these. Seems like a gas-mileage abomination to me.

I probably don't want/need one for my tri bike, but want to know if the option is there.

On our road bikes, it's worth the small MPG hit to protect the paint. I realize that sounds silly, but they're custom paint jobs and without a cover my wife isn't willing to put the bike on the roof! Fortunately, it's a diesel and gets 30+mpg for highway driving. Not bad for an SUV...

This is why:

Think it's hard to get mud off your bike after a 'cross race? Try scrubbing 1000 miles worth of bugs off your front hub, brakes, and shifters. The extra $10 or so for gas is worth it, even on long cross-country trips. A cover also provides basic rock protection for carbon frames.

Of course, the easy solution is to put the bike in the back seat, but that doesn't work when you have multiple people and/or multiple bikes.

Check out my covers: http://www.anaerobiczone.com. As far as the impact on mpg goes, I have found that it makes little difference on most vehicles as the rack and bike create more drag than the cover. Your bike arrives clean no matter what (bugs, rain, snow, sleet hail, dust etc.) it may encounter.

Not affiliated with them, but I have one from http://www.endurafit.com/. The first one I got actually tore, but they were kind enough to send me a new one for free, without even sending it back (I sent them a couple of pictures and that was all they needed to see). Second one made it from Florida to Philly no problem. Fits a tri bike relatively well, although it may be suited more for a bike rack on the back then on the roof.

x2 - Bugs. I don't use my cover all the time but for any lengthy drive in the summer, its a must have. The very slight hit on MPG is more than made up for in savings on soap and water.
