Disc Cover Fit - Is this Normal?	Quote \| Reply

Recently purchased a disc cover from Wheelbuilder based on the strong sentiment on this forum. Once I finally got it all installed, i noticed a sizeable gap on the non-drive side cover between the cover and the hub. I am wondering if this is to be expected, or should I be concerned?

Mine is the same way. I'm not sure why they do that. I tape it.

Mine buts up right against the hub for a perfect fit...

Looks like zipp wheels... You probably put in the wrong hub specs in the order.

Mine buts right against the hub. I would go X2 with the wrong specs when you ordered.

Well, captain obvious with the ability to read a skewer, they are Zipp wheels. And once I had everything finally installed, I double checked my order. I answered all of the Wheelbuilder standard questions correctly, with the added bonus of specifying the specific year of the rim in the comment section to erase any possible confusion.

For the others commenting on their experience, thanks. It sounds like split experiences. Any others able to comment on their cover experience?

I have a powertap hub, and wheel cover fits without a gap. Not sure why there's a gap with yours. Also, it looks like something was pressing against the cover while the wheel was spinning.

no gap on mine
it is possible yours is a mistake, or it is possible it needs to have that gap on that particular wheel to avoid warping.

its a $90 disc wheel, if stuff like this upsets you, you go buy a $1000 disc wheel =)

Good to hear yours has no gap. The scuff marks are from problems I was having trying to figure out the installation.

Is it possible that you have the sides switched? Ie. the drive side on the non drive side?

Starting to sound like no gap is the more popular response.

I am willing to accept what is normal. It just seems that for $90 I should get a well fitting cover that meets the standard expectations. I am just trying to establish what the standard is. In all of the previous pictures and comments extolling the positives of the Wheelbuilder disc covers, I have not heard or seen any issues with gaps by the hub.

Already had that thought. That is how the scuffs got there. With them on the other sides, the warp is out of control.

Should have put that in your first post then; whatever the problem, the solution is usually the simplest ;-)

BTW, my cover fits snug on both sides without a warp.

Wheelbuilder has seen the picture. From the conversation I got the feeling that the gap is due to the fact that they cut mine for the one year newer version of my wheel (2012 versus my 2011). Rich basically said it is not going to affect the aerodynamics.

So I thought I would see what everyone else was getting. Gap/no gap??? Sounds like having a gap is not normal.

aerodynamic differences are not perceptible, but will likely be present. you can simply tape it up with clear tape.
i've done training rides with the valve area untaped which is a much bigger hole and there is no significant drop in speed.

I have the same hole on my Bontrager race lite wheel. When I ordered I went through everything over the phone....so not sure how they could have made a mistake on my hub. I'll just carefully tape it with black electrical tape and use the weight savings to my advangage for .000001 second / K.
