I'll start -

I eat 'steam in bag' broccoli every day at work (along with my box of salad). Today, my boss gave me a seasoning packet to sprinkle on the broccoli before nuking it. It was very generous of her and she insisted that it was delicious. Not to be rude, I added it to my veggies and cooked them. The catch: each packet contained 6 servings of 17% the RDI of sodium. That means she gave me over 100% of my Na+ for the day, in just one food item. I'm drinking water like a mofo but my urine is probably going to be neon yellow for the next week.

This probably isn't the worst story out there, what do you guys have to share?

I've never understood green tea as a flavor. I like green tea in tea, not in muffins, donuts, ice cream, or whatever else they put it in here in Korea. (I foolishly thought that green ice cream would be mint. Not so. They ruined ice cream!)

Anything billed as "low fat". Get off it people, fat is awesome! Everyone should eat MORE, not less.

My in-laws are loosely on a low carb diet (despite the fact that the MIL has a Phd in science and they haven't lost a pound in years). They do things like mash cauliflower and pretend its potatoes. I've learned that whenever I go over to their house, I need to bring carbohydrates or starve.

I thought I had finally gotten through to a friend that low fat=high sugar and am happy she is off that kick, only it wasn't me that she finally listened to. I guess Dr. Oz is good for something.

I wouldn't say "healthy," but my girlfriend is always wanting to go out to eat. I hate going out to restaurants, because I'm sure they throw loads of butter and salt in their food - even the salads. I wish restaurants were forced to post their nutritional facts like fast food. Afterwards, I always feel bloated and lethargic. Also, whenever there is catered food for lunch at work I always get singled out. The other day we had ruby tuesday for our catered lunch - everyone had to comment why I wouldn't eat any of the food. There were ribs, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. They went on asking me why I still wouldn't eat the green beans. I told them despite the fact they were green beans they were still drenched in butter.

I really like the control of knowing how much fat and how much salt is in my food. I guess that would define me as having an eating disorder, but since I'm consuming 4k calories a day those fats can really add up. Also, I'm just an anti-sat/trans-fat person. I have no problem eating unsat fat. Even though we are regularly burning off most of calories, I still believe we can prone to atherosclerosis if we eat unhealthy.

Personally I have come to love the taste of plain (no butter/no salt) food. It baffles me how people are so apalled by the taste of it. If I really want some taste I just add hot sauce.

Looking past the way it's farmed, tilapia is just a completely tasteless and bland piece of protein. Itll taste like whatever sause you slap on it It for people that don't like fish but want to eat it

That would be a problem for a typical nonathletic individual, but triathletes that workout in the heat sweat a lot, and they need more sodium than the average person. In fact many of those recovery drinks purposely have extra sodium to replenish losses.

Im like you, but I went eased up on the anti SAT. fat thing. Many recent studies came out showing it doesnt lead to heart disease itself (the earlier studies people smoked, etc - so there were no control factors). In fact certain sat fats are beneficial, stearic acid turns into oliec acid in the liver, this is the same monounsaturated fat in olive oil that raises hdl and testosterone. As for butter, it contains butric acid, which is a short chain fatty acid, and operates similarly to a carb or MCT... so I only eat it before a race.

Wow, I could have written that. It's reassuring to hear that there are other food-wackos out there!

My parents are always dragging me out to restaurants. I hate not having control/knowledge of what I'm eating. Only endurance athletes can understand how it's possible to eat >4000cal/day and still have disordered eating habits.

I like fish, but not the price. Tilapia is the cheapest I can get, and as a frugal doctoral student, I make it work. Various spices and herbs make it OK.

Good hot sauce can save a marriage, if applied right.
What's not better with a little hot sauce? How about honey?
Damn... Now I'm hungry!!!

Fake butter/spreads. I'm sorry but I like to cook with and eat real butter. Whole milk is good too. Especially on cereal. Cream in coffee is the best. What the hell is fat free half and half. I read the ingredients, it has corn syrup, in 1/2 & 1/2! WTF!
