Dark Speed Works - Capacity

Thinking about picking one up, but have a capacity question.
Could I store 1x Tube, 1x CO2, 1x Inflaitor Head, 2x tire lever, & 1 EFS Liquid Shot in there?

It depends on the size of your tube. Some 700c tubes take up more space. The EFS could fit, but it will be tight

I think it would be close, but I think that'll work. I'll give it a shot when I get home and post if no one else has.

May do better to tuck the tube under your seat and save the internal space. Most saddles have enough space under the rails to tuck a tube.

i keep an EFS liquid shot flask in mine, and you definitely won't have room for a tube and co2 as well. might get the levers and inflator head in as well, but no more than that. you could do the tube/levers/co2/inflator in the bento and use the gu top tube mount for the gel flask.
cheers!

what do you use to keep the tube in place under the seat? do you wrap the tube in anything to protect it?

I just bind it into a tight package with a wrap of electrical tape. It fits snug under rails/seat post and you never know if a piece of electrical tape may come in handy. Some people use a small zip tie or twist tie to hold it onto the rail, mine is pretty snug without. This frees up space in the saddle bag I use for training.

In my Dark Speed Works I carry, 1 tube, 2 CO2s, inflator head, 2 tire levers, 1 van key, 2 aaa batteries. Tight fit, but works for me. If you remove the plastic form piece, you could probably get a little more in. Love it.

Inside the bento, I carry 1 20gram CO2, an inflator head thingy, and two tire levers, all taped into a neat package. That leaves plenty of room for a car or house key and a few gel packets.
Spare tube goes in a ziploc bag under the saddle.
I like the plastic insert because 1.) It maintains the shape of the pack to preserve its aero shape and prevents it from spreading out and contacting my knees. 2.) You can slide an ID and credit card/cash between the plastic and fabric and don't have to worry about losing them while accessing contents on the move.

Thanks for considering a Speedpack. The packs are strong, roomy, and good for holding lots of things, but we initially intended for the packs to be aero storage primarily for nutrition (you kinda need that for long races and rides), and maybe also a phone, keys, money, powerbars, and things like that for training.
But, of course, the packs work great for repair kits too. Not absolutely required, but our general suggestions for using Speedpacks for flat kits: to give yourself the most storage options, we'd suggest that you take the heavy, tough, and weather-resistant type things and tape them under the seat rails. So put the CO2 cartridges, inflator, multi-tool, tire irons, etc. under the seat and tape them securely to the rails. And you can leave them there until you need them.
But take your tube (for one, tubes don't like to be taped under a seat for months, and sometimes you need a different tube--or a tube with a different valve stem set up--for different wheels and/or different events) and your gels and nutrition and $/cc card and phone and other misc items and put them in your Speedpack. That way they'll be right where you can easily reach them, and you'll likely have extra space to boot.

i will admit i don't use the lightest, tiniest tube i can find (i go with regular 18-23mm butyl tubes), but i don't see a 5oz gel flask + tube fitting into my speedpack, let alone leaving extra space.
cheers!

Agreed, the 5oz gel flasks are kind of big, so that limits how much of a repair kit you can also get in a Speedpack 480. For nutrition items, I was thinking more of the individual gel packets, or shot bloks, or clif bars.

since the OP asked about EFS liquid shot which only comes in 32oz jugs or 5oz flasks (no single-serve pouches), i figured it was safe to assume they wanted to know if it was possible to fit a flask + repair kit :)
cheers!

Cheers,
Target release date for the Speedpack 483 is by the end of this month, April. So far, it is looking good, but if the date slips at all, it won't slip by much. When the release date arrives, the first folks that will be able to purchase will be on our pre-order list (go
here

(become a fan and you'll get an alert). Thanks for your interest !

Mr. Dark,
Question for you: will the 480D fit onto bottle bosses? Is the bottle-bolt spacing the same as the top-tube spacing it was designed for? I've got one on order from you with the goal of attaching it to the underside of a Dash Tri.9 saddle with the built-in bosses. I think it will be a slick setup and am hoping the spacing is right, otherwise I'll need to get out the drill and make some mods to the bag. I'll post pics when done!

Hi Don,
We got your order, thanks. Yes, the 480D will fit bottle bosses. The standard for top tube storage bosses (started by Trek and now followed by Cervelo, Giant, and others to come) is the same standard (bolt diameter and spacing) as that of water bottle bosses. So if your Dash saddle has bottle bosses, the Speedpack may fit in there.
But, that said, we can't approve mounting the Speedpack behind the saddle because the HDPE insert/stiffener is supposed to be on the bottom and sides of the Speedpack and, if the pack will be upside down behind your saddle, then there will be no insert on the pack's 'bottom' (normally the 'top'). We've tested the pack quite extensively on top tube mounts (as on the Speed Concept), but we did zero road testing with the pack upside down. You
might
be ok if you carry nothing in it but super light things (extra arm warmers, or lighter stuff), but I don't think the pack will do well with with heavier items inside it when upside down. Why not put a bottle cage behind your saddle and put a small plugged bottle or
one of these
in the bottle cage for your items? The exact of shape of items behind your saddle (mostly 'dirty' air) doesn't matter nearly as much as items mounted to your top tube. And you'll save some money, the bottle shaped-carriers are cheaper.
Related to your questions, the 480D does come with a single set of holes (and screws) for mounting. However, if a user were to want to make additional holes to be able to position the pack slightly differently, all you'd need to do that is a good ruler, a sharpie pen, a sharp 'punch', and a drill with the right sized bit. If you want some tips about how best to do that, just send me a pm or email (email link
here
).
I hope this info helps. If you're thinking of going another way with your saddle storage, I totally understand, just send me a message what you'd like us to do with your order (no problem to give you a full refund). Also, for your future planning, we are going to be making a game-changing behind the saddle storage solution, but that's still a little ways off.
thanks,

I can carry 1 tube, 2 co2 plus inflator, 2 tire levers, and 1 multitool. My multitool is about the size of the EFS liquid shot so I would say it would all fit. I have to fold the tube so it goes along with the aero shape.

Greg,
thanks for the response and for the multiple emails as well, as we discussed on email I'm psyched to give it a try! I'll be sure to post pics if I'm able to make something work.
